Who would have thought that with the help of technology, we could bring back and see how the pre-humans looked like. Today, we have re-created the images of the Ancient humans called Neanderthals.
Neanderthals are the most famous of our evolutionary ancestors, yet their appearance has baffled scientists since they were first discovered. Reconstructions have varied wildly, from heavily-built sub-humans to tall, slender creatures with elongated crania. How different were Neanderthals from our species Homo sapiens? Well, let's see from this wonderful images that are re-created from the skulls of the Neanderthals, and brought to life by our team.

Neanderthals are our closest extinct relatives. 50,000 years ago all of us shared a common ancestor, and that was a Neanderthal. Until very recently it was widely believed that the Homo Sapiens quickly wiped out their Neanderthal cousins. But recent findings suggest that Neanderthals were intelligent and resourceful enough to live alongside us for thousands of years, allowing them to eventually mate with our ancestors from around 40-50,000 years ago.

I've known about the resemblance to modern people for years.
Take these people, trim or shave the facial hair, comb the hair, put them in modern clothing, and you wouldn't even notice at the grocery store.
Maybe not the most attractive, but not repulsive either.

Neanderthals are not our ancestors.
We (Homo Sapiens) and Neanderthals (Homo Neanderthalensis) lived at the same time.
The two species share a common ancestor, Homo Heidelbergensis, roughly 500 million years ago.
But since Sapiens and Neanderthalensis did interbreed and thus Europeans and Asians today have some Neanderthal DNA, I guess you could call Neanderthals a part of the ancestry of most modern humans.

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion about this:
- The beginning slide says Neanderthals are our ancestors. @ 0:12 "..they are our evolutionary ancestors". (not really, as explained above)
- @ 0:45 "they are our closest extinct relatives" (correct to my knowledge)
- but then @ 0:48 "...50k years ago, we shared a common ancestor, which was a Neanderthal". (No. Roughly 500mil years ago, we shared a common ancestor: Homo Heidelbergensis)
- @ 0:53 "...our neanderthal cousins." (a fair comparison)

So some inaccuracies we did not evolve from neanderthals, we were two branches that evolved from something else, however later on we interbreed so you may have a neanderthal ancestors but not a common neanderthal ancestor for all homo sapiens as neanderthals didn't predate homo sapiens

Archaic Sapien male: sees Archaic, fragile, slender sapien female. Then looks at strong, beautiful, robust, exotic looking neanderthal female. "Imma slide in that neandertussy"
Archaic Sapien Female: sees fragile, slender, archaic sapien male. Then sees Big, burly, robust, handsome, exotic looking neanderthal male. "lemme get some that neandick"
and that kids is how our great^(whatever tf the number is) grandparents met in eurasia, crossed species lines and interbred, creating us.

Not all of them are neanderthals though. There was Homo Heidelbergansis, Homo Sapiens (us) and some other types in the video. And one correction that we are not direct descendants of Neanderthals. Homo Sapiens are a separate branch Homo Neanderthalis are separate though having a common ancestor. We later interbreed though carrying on their genes to this day with exception to the Africans they have zero Neanderthals genes.

So much of this is suppositional: skin colour, hair, cartilaginous parts like ears and nose. Yet most of these enhanced shots (with the exception of a couple of them) look like those of humans. Why assume they are otherwise.
