ABOUT ME:
Helping people understand the Autism Spectrum from an adult with Autism.

Hey from the Aspie World and a big welcome into my channel! I am a Dan from the UK and I have Aspergers Syndrome or ASD which is a form of Autism, often referred to as High Functioning Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder. I make videos every week on autism in adults and my journey / offer tips and help for everyone who is living with autism or learning about autism in children.

I also have help videos for helping people get a diagnosis of Autism or Aspergers Syndrome from the autism test, and also some advise and help for anyone who is friends, partners or loved ones who suffer from Autism or Aspergers Syndrome and may show autism symptoms.

Just when I decide that 'no, I can't be autistic', I hear of another trait that I've had for years. Running into door frames, bashing cups and mugs, placing items only half onto a bench, & general clumsiness are things I've done for years. I appreciate your videos and your sharing of personal experiences. Thank you.

I got my AS in Occupational Therapy Assistant.
I was diagnosed with Asperger's 2 and a half years AFTER my OT schooling. None of the faculty, nor any of my fellow students who wanted to specialize in ASD even noticed the symptoms/behaviors I demonstrated.
OT practitioners do a lot of good work, but having an entire Department of people in that field who claim to have a lot of experience with ASD ***not even notice the undiagnosed aspie in their classroom*** really says a lot.

Dan, can you make a video on occupational therapy? A detailed video about how it was in action and how it helps with sensory issues. I have this issues in a very strong way and I really want to get rid of them because I have to catch crowded buses everyday and all the noise and people touching me make me want to cry, scream and run away!

I work with kids and I love to play with legos and all of the toys in this video. I get super distracted and shut the world out. But kids love when you get on their level and have a diffrent understanding for children with diffrent needs. Thank you for these videos, you make me feel like I'm not alone.

I see a psychologist every 4 weeks, so I can basically download/dump my brain onto... it declutters all the noise that builds up.

Music therapy for some works well. Depends on the individual. 😊 Thanks Dan. I personally look at the person's mouth since I also have a hearing loss and read lips.

I'm 21 and I've found sensory play to be the best for me. I have two coral fleece blankets that I play with often. I've also come to understand that it isn't shameful to stim orally, it is a way to help with my sensory processing.
I would love a video on sensory toys😁😁there isn't much in the way of sensory toys in South Africa

Sometimes I find certain music quite therapeutic, however most of the time I find it very irritating. When I'm driving my lorry i will often tune in to a talk radio station as I find this much easier to cope with

Hi Dan,
I just wanted to say how much I've learned about autism through your channel. It's been super helpful to know all these things because I've noticed I have lots of signs and symptoms of autism and OCD but can't get up the courage to tell my parents. Do you have any advise for that?

I would love a video explaining what is the controversy about ABA therapy
Why do some think it is " highly abusive"???

Dan, I have heard you will be doing a video with a family with a non verbal autistic daughter, so they can explain some of the misconceptions. 7 months ago they posted a video saying they didn't like ABA. I have used every therapy besides ABA for my children. I did look into it, as I had heard it had improved.... I decided against it, after a intake interview. The point you made about social classes is very important, as it also creates opportunity for friendships.

I waited for a long time to put my son now 6, into ABA therapy because I heard a lot of negative things about it...

I am in the US.
His therapy is through Juvo.
He has M-F 3 hrs.(this includes work time where he works on goals, play time building speech, social arts and craft activities with his siblings, a few days out of the week we play hide n seek or turn taking games to help him initiate play and take turns at parks/recess - he LOVES it)

No other therapy has been more beneficial to him, he can speak- express his feelings and wants and communicate what’s going on inside of his head instead of being frustrated because he can’t articulate his need.
It’s been the most amazing opportunity for him. He adores his BT and team that builds his goals. It has made him feel more comfortable communicating at parks and with the public with “strangers” he is able to explain when he needs space to clear his head.

All of this coming from a mostly non verbal child who would just cry, give up, or hit himself with objects because he didn’t have the tools to express what he was feeling and needing. He has had less than a year of ABA therapy so far and it’s just been amazing.

So I hope that people do their research and maybe try it out before turning the idea down you should be involved in every aspect of their therapy, you are always present, I don’t see how their is opportunity for “abusive treatment”

I’m so thankful I gave it a chance.

Hey Dan, it would be great if you made a DIY video about sensory box !
I'm attending 'explore the feelings' therapy twice a month with a psychologist. It is great to find ways to control my anxiety. It is from Tony Artwood and can be adapted to adults. Bye 👋
