This would totally depend on the type of framing being used in my opinion. Going over sheathing? Sure, it’s serving a mostly cosmetic purpose. I’ve done 4’ screw spacing on roofs that got hit with 100 mph derecho winds with zero issue. If this was a building with purlins, the steel is providing structural support that sheathing usually would, preventing racking and diagonal movement. In this instance, I would never skip a row.

I just installed a metal roof. Should I caulk my screws even though the metal roof and screws are new? I used the new screw screws with the rubber washer. I live in southern Florida.

Does your manufacturer/supplier have this screw pattern in their literature or is this just your own thing you came up with? 17 years in the trades and have yet to see a tin roof with that screw pattern. Our supplier & manufacturer recommend full rows at 2 ft max on each side of all the ribs just as your first row. I can understand the logic behind what you're saying though, it makes some sense. And the only thing that can really fail is the screw here so I've always agreed that less penetrations is better. Same as how I see the logic behind why Canadian suppliers call for screws into the ribs and not the flats. We do as recommended by ours though to avoid any possible future warranty issues.
