Arachnophobia: The General Explained

The General or as the filmmakers came to know his as Big Bob is a pivotal creature in the book of film monsters. His size and deadly venom terrorized a small town and family thrust out of their comfort zone. I explore what kind of monster came out of the deep Amazonian forest and created a legend for himself.

Big Bob is without a doubt one of the most frightening movie spiders in cinema history! Hard to believe considering its still so much smaller than a human being despite his impressive size for an amazonian spider.
Perhaps Big bob was a hybrid spider species of some kind sharing traits with the Goliath birdeater and funnel-web spider.

Love the film! The reason why the spider (big Bob) was down 2000 feet in the Amazon was because no one should have been there. A lot of animals are secluded to keep themselves and humans safe. And that is why this movie did a masterful job of representing that.

In the Amazon some tribes design their huts in a specific way. They say it is to keep out the giant spiders so they wont carry people away. The old man I saw tell this in an interview said he was attacked when he was 10 by a huge spider that tried to run off with him. He would have died if his father hadn't killed it with a spear.

Regarding 2:33: spiders are not poisonous, but venomous. Neurotoxins do not paralyze lungs; depending on the toxin, muscles that enable breathing (i.e. diaphragm) can be affected, potentially leading to dyspnea.

Arachnophobia is one of the few movies that still makes me feel uncomfortable. I was six when it was released so I was probably seven when I first saw it (had to wait for it to be released at the local video store). I truly believe it’s the reason I don’t like spiders and sometimes freeze out of fear when one unexpectedly goes near me. Oh well. Psycho ruined showers for some, Jaws ruined the water for others lol

I never knew that big Bob originally was a Goliath bird eater when filming while my favorites and dream pet When I get a pet tarantula, I will name it after big Bob and Kumanga from Godzilla two of my favorite movie monster spiders

It's not impossible for spider to develop Venom that deadly, there is an island out there with a single species of snake that hunts and eats birds and their venom is so potent it literally kills them in minutes it's a forbidden place for people to go because of how deadly it is so it's not entirely impossible for a spider to develop Venom that deadly if isolated to a single area

The General was to smart to be just ordinary venomous spider and seemed to be vindictive and vengeful.

One thing alot of people overlook is the fact thr General really did nothing wrong. He was disturbed in his habitat and a photographer stamped and squashed his mate infront of him and rightfully thr general defended avenging his comrade and killed Manley just a bit of payback.

I feel like the animetronic is what the General was really supposed to look like. It looks way to different from the real life tarantula they used. Especially with the General having very large horizontal eyes, along with four fanged mandables.
