"Maybe he's just a symptom of a sick society." DING DING DING. Elon is just another businessman just like the other Silicon Valley juggernauts. The problem with our society today, is we tend to ignore all criticism because "he's doing something good for the world." I fail to see how selling cars you're not even allowed to service yourself is beneficial to the world. Or how the privatization of space travel could have downsides. No, instead we get excited over "new" and "advanced" technology, with complete disregard to societal / environmental consequences (the lithium used for all those EVs has to come from somewhere, and lithium mining is HORRIBLE for the environment). You hit the nail on the head when you said he's basically the monorail guy from the Simpsons.

One of the scariest things I've ever heard is when one of my best friends that I grew up with, and by all accounts considered a brother more than a friend, telling me that he couldn't wait until Neurolink was up and running. I asked him if he saw the potential dangers of doing this, and if he had any concern about his own individual humanity.... Not a single thought about it before he basically said he wanted to be plugged in. I no longer wish to be part of this world.

Like almost every wealthy person, Elon has created his own cult of personality. While I don't particularly hate the guy, I certainly don't trust him. After all, he talks about the potential threats regarding A.I., all the while creating brain interface microchips and Starlink. It's like a magic show, where the magician wants the crowd to focus on one thing in order to perform the trick without notice of how it is done. Furthermore, what gets me is how he is described by the media as a threat to globalism, yet it seems that whenever he gets himself in trouble, whether an exposed lie or financial (or both), these same globalists are always there to bail him out. Again, the magic trick (illusion) is performed without notice of how exactly the trick is performed; slight of hand, if you will.
