When I started factorio, back in the day, I choose "absolute noob" as my screen name. I am glad that after seeing this video, I can drop the "absolute" from my screenname.
Keep the factory growing, RCE.

1 minute in, and he is already failing in his standard architect fashion...

"does this have anything inside it? nope" - it had an iron plate.
deconstructs it and gets the contents - "lets deconstruct all of those to get iron plates"
deconstructs one of the empty ones and gets nothing - he doesn't even notice.

please for the love of all, keep playing. the dlc makes rockets earlier in the techtree, i think shortly before purple science, unlike non-dlc playthrough where you need to reach most science packs to unlock the rocket silo.

the fact that you play the first few hours as normal on the starter planet, called nauvis, is to ease the entry into the dlc. your learn the basics before reaching other worlds.

please keep playing. its such a good game. and its not just for veteran players, the game entry has been updated to not overwhelm new players directly, as seen with the trigger techs than unlock, like steam power or later on oil production.

HE FINALLY DID IT, HE FINALLY PLAYED FACTORIO (from now on the next 5 to 10 videos are going to be only factorio because he is going to get addicted)

I let out the loudest "WTF" when you put offshore pumps on both sides of the boiler. I was in a public place and had like 10 people stare at me like I was crazy lol

Power poles can be dragged and they get placed at the correct length, and the water can travel through the boiler so you can have many in a row with 1 off shore pump

You had me raging in under 3 minutes! Nice work RCE

Okay Matt, some tips to help your QoL. Press left alt(or the button lower right hud named Alt) press and hold mouse button when placing power poles and just run it will automatically put them at max distance still connected

the funniest setting, no trees. that single log you start with is a failsafe to allow you to make a wooden pole that can be used as your one and only pole till you unlock and build metal poles

when he was putting down the boiler, it hurt my head more then my resent ear infection, sorry maty but dam you sure haven't played Factorio for some time anyhow good luck with it :)

You can put multiple burner drills down facing into each other in a loop on the coal patch. Just give one a single coal, and it will then mine a coal and send it to the next drill in the loop and so on until it loops back to the beginning and they're all running and filling up with coal. Drills can hold 50 coal each, so I usually put 4-6 in a loop to get past past the initial fuel supply until you have steam power.

Drills even stay powered for a bit after removing coal, so you can take everything out of them at once and it'll still keep running.

Here is every single mistake you made in this video:

0:50 - Not pressing Left Alt to activate Alt mode, which makes seeing whats doing what a lot easier
0:52 - Confusing the players inventory for the ships storage space
0:58 - Checking inside the ship parts instead of instantly mining them
1:52 - Not chopping down enough trees, you need a LOT of wood early game for power poles and chopping a ton of trees is the first thing you should do
2:01 - Questioning if you should start with copper (always start with iron)
2:02 - Forgetting where the iron is
2:09 - Mining coal by hand, at first you should look for huge rocks which give you a lot of coal (the new 2.0 update makes rocks much more common)
2:23 - Putting wood inside a drill to fuel it
2:29 - Outputting the ores from a burner drill onto a conveyor (you dont have burner drills for very long, so feeding every one of them directly into a furnace is good)
2:37 -💀
3:20 - Mining coal by hand (again)
3:31 - Crafting gears separately instead of having auto craft do it for you
3:47 - Putting wood inside a drill to fuel it (again)
4:28 - Putting wood inside a drill to fuel it (again again)
4:49 - Putting wood inside a furnace to fuel it
4:55 - Stop fueling things with wood please
5:01 - I swear to god if you keep manually crafting intermediates im going to find you
5:19 - WHY ARE YOU FUELING EVERYTHING WITH WOOD
6:55 - Inputting water into the wrong input on the boiler
7:15 - Making 2 pumps and inputting both of them into the boiler (the other in/out of water on the boiler is for boiler chaining, each water pump can handle, well, it used to be 20 boilers but i heard they changed it to be able to handle MUCH more)
7:21 - w h y
7:23 - Only connecting 1 steam engine to the boiler (each boiler can handle 2 steam engines)
7:39 - HMMM I WONDER WHY YOU DONT HAVE ANY WOOD ON YOU
7:43 - Not holding down click while dragging the power poles to automatically place them at max distance
10:37 - Taking coal out of the chest using an inserter instead of directly outputting onto the belt
10:37 (again) - passing coal around to fuel things instead of getting electric miners and building a furnace stack (search up what a furnace stack is)
11:04 - This doesn't matter, inserters can reach items on both sides of the belt, otherwise this game would be unplayable
11:58 - Manually crafting conveyor belts after unlocking automation (you can make a very simple belt craft with 2 crafters, 2 inserters, and 1 long handed inserter to pass the gears from the first crafter into the second one that makes belts)
12:45 - I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU FUEL SOMETHING WITH WOOD ONE MORE TIME I WILL APPEAR OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW AT 2 AM TONIGHT
13:13 - i am speechless
14:02 - Bricks and Concrete make this feature obsolete
14:38 - why the hell are you looping a conveyor belt
(not a mistake) 15:29 - for a complete noob who doesnt know what a furnace stack is, i will admit this is a smart way of fixing problems you caused
15:37 - never mind about that last one
16:12 - That is the time each pack takes to research, the amount of packs you need is the big number to the right
16:15 - you can right click to craft 5 at a time
17:19 - Placing the inserters the wrong way

EDIT: 17:40 - please finish the gears conveyor belt with and underground, the fact you ended the video without doing that enrages me

this took 40 minutes to do

Please continue with the game! It would deviate from your normal content as it would take many episodes, but its so fun to see you play! I am a quite experienced factorio player and its so rare to see people coming to the game unspoiled without knowing all the perfect designs and stuff. Id love to see you conquer space!

AWHHH YEAHH!!!! Don't worry Matt you'll get the hang of things!
*Everyone, be supportive.*
RCE, some quality of life tricks: You can fill both sides of a belt with different items (good for getting gears and copper plates to that assembler) which is great to know for the future, if you hold the place button down you can essentially run and it'll place the power poles automatically at the right distances (but its been a while so just double check with a tips video on yt)

Couple of tips
1: looping the belts is completely pointless, its actually better just to let the coal pile up at the end so you only produce coal if you need it.
2: you should transition to electric miners by now. They are much more efficient compared to burner miners and more versatile since you don’t need to feed them coal. Also build your smelters away from the ore patch and feed them by belt for better automation and efficiency.
3: having items on the far side of the belt is fine, inserters can still grab off of them
4: boilers have 2 water pipes, but you only need to put water in one of them.
5: the factory must grow.

Please do play more Factorio! It’s great to see how people who don’t already have established habits approach solving problems, I’ve actually seen something I hadn’t thought of before for the early game in this video!

And don’t worry if it seems to take a while to get into space, this is still Factorio after all, the early game is basically the same and the mid game is somewhat different, you get to rockets going up sooner than you would in the base game.

BTW, if you are hand-mining something (anything), moving your mouse from the initial target to a different one (another tile of coal, another tree, etc) _completely resets your progress._ You don’t mine more by sweeping your mouse across multiple tiles. Pick one and stick to it until it’s gone or you have the desired amount in your inventory (the flying text tells you how much you have total as well as how much you’ve gained in the most recent streak).

Also, if chopping trees, picking up belts, etc, you can hold the button down while moving and as long as you keep the mouse close to your character you will automatically stop until the target is gone, move, stop, etc. It’s much faster that way!

As someone else said, it's very interesting and enjoyable to see someone coming at Factorio from a relatively fresh perspective. Getting to see someone learning a game is much rarer than watching someone play it with experience.

Pro tip : you can make your miner mine coal and dump it into an other miner, which dumps it into another miner in a perpetual-feeding square and collect their full inner storage when you pass by.

The wood per tree depends on thw tree and absorbed polution.
A healthy tree gives 4, but a tree dead from polution only gives 2(and they stop absorbing polution at that point).

Trees don't regenerate from polution BTW, so no point slowing production to try to make the trees last longer.
