To be fair, not saying it’s right, but what the Japanese did to the entire Asian continent around WWII was beyond horrific. Clearly has traumatized generations of people.

This is hilarious because the Japanese guy’s parent were just like “understandable, have a nice day grandma”

Mad respect to the parent for being honest with the kid about the dark side of their cultural history.

"Mom, their grandma doesn't like me because I'm Japanese."

"Honestly... I get it."

Asian history boils down to Mongolians and the Japanese gave everyone else PTSD

The Chinese grandad that served in the military was probably trauma from the Sino-Japanese front of WW2

It’s good to see all the younger generations getting along rather than shouldering their grandparents grudges and hatred.

Yeah, our generations are laughing it off but damn those Japanese Soldiers did some horrific and inhuman shit to the Chinese, Koreans and Filipinos as well. I understand the pain.

Edit: Sorry I left out some countries or nationalities, I just made the comment from what I know and from what I’ve remembered.

I found the short funny too but that doesn’t mean we will easily forget what has transpired and what atrocities were done. We will all be damned if we will neglect the experiences of the people who suffered back then, so thank you also for educating me 🙏

Some Japnanese people born in the newer generations are actually the ones who are ending up apologizing for their ancestors lol. I remember back in college one of my batchmates was asking for a favor with one of my classmates but he was like “but if you don’t want to it’s okay, if you’re still angry about the war then I completely understand.”

Needless to say, he was really kind and adorable and ended up being one of the most loved kid in our batch.

Some Japanese people are aware of this. We had a Japanese exchange student in our lab and we came upon a casual conversation of the Japanese occupation in the Philippines during WW2. He began apologizing extensively, and we were comforting him saying we're not associating him with what his ancestors did. He didn't even know about that horrific side of history, makes me wonder how colonizing countries teach history...

I'm Korean myself and let me tell you, my family depises the Japanese especially my grandma who was born around the time when Japan invaded Korea, my uncle and dad also hold the same grudge and I honestly can't blame them even though I like Japanese culture and anime thankfully my dad was cool with my sister and I enjoying anime, but he'd rather us not to engage with Japanese-related culture

My father's friend once told him that when the Dutch in Indonesia lost to the Japanese and had to leave Indonesia. The Dutch who were left behind were killed by the Japanese army. One time, there was a Dutch mother and her 3-4 y.o son were walking on the street and met Japanese soldiers. Japanese soldiers immediately got out of the car and approached the child's mother, then without saying anything the soldier immediately slammed the child to death in front of his mother and the mother was put in a pig cage made of woven bamboo and then drowned in the river. they were really sadistic. my dad's friend who saw that from up in the tree, couldn't eat for almost a week because of the trauma.

The Dutch colonized Indonesia for 350 years, and Japanese colonized Indonesia for only 3.5 years.
But boy.. those 3.5 years by japanese are millions time worse than 350 years by Dutch.
The brutality is beyond imagination..

The weird part is that Young Japanese generation nowadays didn't know about their country history of colonization and the brutality they did in almost all Asian country. My friend once told her japanese friend about the history and this japanese girl keep saying sorry all the time while bowing. Also most of the Dutch generation nowadays didn't know about the colonization.

Fact is that Japanese military was even more sadistic during WW2 than the Nazis.
