What do you think about the new Space Force rank designs? I think they're definitely better than the Air Force's, but fall short when compared to the other major branches.

The US space force needs to go with naval ranks only because then the 5 star could be “admiral of the constellation” which is just the coolest rank ever

Look guys, I just want to know when the Venator-class Star Destroyers come in. That’s enough convincing to join Space Force.

All jokes about the insignia designs aside, it's understandable that the U.S. Space Force wants to establish its own identity as an independent and relevant service branch. The fact is that the United States of America is very dependent on its satellite networks for both civilian and military use. There is no doubt that the U.S. Space Force will become an important and integral service branch responsible for maintaining and protecting our nation's satellites necessary for our daily lives.

Now we actually have a branch of the Military where new recruits can actually be called "Space Cadets". Man this is going to be fun.

it's pretty cool when you think about the fact that we have a space force. Hopefully I'll get to witness how far this goes in my lifetime.

What a time to be alive, a military branch’s uniforms inspired by sci-if, while its rank design is taken from Reddit.

Remember, when they get a space force academy, we will have space cadets.

I think that the US Air Force made a mistake when it eliminated the warrant officer grades in the 1950s. It would be cool if the US Space Force was to reintroduce the warrant officer grades because there could be some duties of the newest service branches mission that would suit those ranks.

I came into the Air Force in 1992, E1 Airman Basic; E2 Airman; E3 Airman First Class; E4 Senior Airman; E5 thru E9 are correct, however there is a E9 and the Command level who have regions that he or she is responsible for. That E9 is called Command Chief Master Sergeant .

In a few years we'll see E-1's wearing red shirts instead of chevrons

Cool design for the rank insignia. I hope they have a stylish hat to bring that uniform together, I find fancy clothes often don't work if the head is left bare.

Pretty cool setup. If they expand the ranks later on I'm hoping to see the rank of Grand Admiral.

This is awesome to see. Civilians may be wondering why the Space Force even needs to have their own uniforms and insignias, but it is extremely important to create their own identity, history, and culture. Personally, I think the new enlisted ranks look pretty interesting. They are unique and can tell at a glance what it is. There shouldn't be a whole lot of wondering where on the totem someone falls because it's too confusing.

Army Specialist naming conventions, AF NCO ranks (plus E5 SGT) with a blended USAF/USN CPO (squared chevrons) aesthetic for NCOs. It works.

The specialist ranks are almost Earth Starfleet from Star Trek: Enterprise to a tee which featured the delta through a circular background with angled chevrons on one side

I'm just glad that some sci-fi nerds clearly had some influence in the design of these.

While people may laugh at the idea of "Space Force, " keep in mind that generals prior to World War I laughed at the idea of aircraft being used for military purposes. Wars were fought on the ground with infantry and tanks, or at sea with battleships. However, once aerial photography started taking place and those same generals got a bird's eye view of the enemy's positions, they quickly realized the value of what they previously laughed at. War has never been the same, and an air force arguably becomes the most important component of a modern military.

Moving into the 21st century where various organizations are planning manned missions to Mars, or have invested interests in satellites, it only makes sense for the Space Force to be the next evolution of the US military as we reach for the stars and beyond. We will soon outgrow this planet, and spread our cosmic wings and fly onto other worlds. A military branch of service needs to lay its foundation now in preparation for the future, just as the pilots did in World War I.
