This level up I am basically a talking version of that Kendrick song, sit down, be humble. Just kidding I am actually real tasing about when to be humble and when to go hard and how to know the difference. Knowing when makes a difference so you better start paying attention to the clues to know yourself.

Found myself in the same boat last weekend holly creek was blowed out at 4000cfs, and I ran it anyways only bc I've ran the run many times but not no were near that level. Was upside down half the time. #nerves was bad. Just a example of my head getting to big. Great video man.... Thanks

Happened this wknd on the Wairoa. Just started attempting the upper section. Wasn’t feeling it and decided to run anyway...should have picked another day...Ended up taking a beating and an pretty uncomfortable swim...bailed and walked out. Somehow we keep coming back for more...

Could you comment on paddling alone vs. with an experience group? How does that change the risk level on deciding to run a rapid or not. Also cold water vs. summer time.
Personally I feel much more inclined to try something difficult if failure results in taking a summertime swim. However, if the water is cold I usually chicken out.

I did a week with Westgarth in Norway, one thing he was big about was the idea of learning and training (proper training, not catch every eddie etc.) on easy rapids and executing on harder ones. The idea being if you need say a left late water boof, make sure you have it in the bag, and if you can't tell what strokes you need, you probably don't have them. What are your thoughts on training on white water courses (like freestyle or slalom boaters) but for river running and with specific goals?
