Thomas Sowell - 3 Questions for the Left

preview_player
Показать описание
Thomas Sowell asks three questions of the left with a claim that it is rare that the answers are readily available. This video frames the housing market crash from 2008 and challenges those on both the Right and Left. When a social policy is adopted and becomes a top priority - asking honest questions is the only way of ensuring you remain objective. The radical left today appears to run into difficulty when those same questions are asked. I certainly don't agree with all of Sowell's positions on every topic, but the questions are worthy of being asked.

"There are no solutions. There are only trade-offs." Classic Sowell.

Mainstream society has kept Sowell out of public dialogue and debate I think. I never heard of the man until recently online. Oh, he's dangerous alright: his hard thinking and critique of leftist worldview dominating academia, the media and therefore politics make him a considerable intellectual threat to cultural Marxism and it's many offshoots. I've now read two of his books and my worldview is shifting at a forthright pace. The man is a giant.

I bought a house in 2003, I figured out how much I wanted to spend and how much I could spend within my budget. I chose a house, used an amortization calculator and it was within the budget. I am a veteran, good credit, I got approved for an amount about 10 times what I could afford. When I contacted the realtor, they didn't want to show me houses in the range I knew I could pay for, they wanted to show me houses for what I was approved for. When I bought the house, the realtor said he had failed me. I asked him in what way, his response was "I didn't sell you enough house." 17 years later, I have never missed a house payment, never been late even with me and my wife changing jobs, a few periods of unemployment and all the other things that happen in life.

1) Compared to what?
2) At what cost?
3) What hard evidence do you have?

My favorite thing about Mr. Sowell is that he constantly highlights that we do not live in an ideal world, or in a world that will ever be perfectly ideal.

This needs to be a mantra...
1. Compared to what?
2. At what cost?
3. What hard evidence do you have?

Thomas Sowell is the smartest conservative alive. Conservatives seek his counsel while liberals hang on every word actors, comedians and singers babble.

Sowell is someone who needs to be listened too especially today. I never heard of him till now. He speaks from the heart and backs up everything he says. He is well educated and has a quick mind. He can play mental chess so to speak with anyone. A worthy adversary in any debate on truth.

I first heard about Mr. Sowell from, Ms. Owens. A brilliant man, I have encouraged so many people to look into his ideas ever since.

Let’s be clear, it’s not “classical liberals” - it’s the modern left.
Liberal people (I consider myself one - or maybe I’m a conservative liberal) agree with Sowell.
