The OP-Z Doesn't Sound Good?

Today we're talking about something that a lot of people tend to skip over when discussing the OP-Z. You can erase every single drum sound or synth sound engine and replace them with your own samples! You still get to use all of the parameters, complete with locks, as well as all of the powerful sequencing capabilities of the OP-Z. So even if you don't like the onboard sounds of the OP-Z, you can still get a lot out of it! Did you know the OP-Z could do this? Let me know, and enjoy the video!

Great video, I think the OP-Z sounds amazing! FYI, for synth track samples you get 6 seconds and for drum tracks you get 12 seconds. Also, the Lead track has 3 note polyphony.

Wow! I just ordered the OP-Z today and am waiting for delivery. I wasn't too happy with the synth engines and thought the rest of the functionality would make up for it. So happy I can get my existing synth sounds into this little guy - thanks for the clear explanation!

Nice, you replied in another video and mentioned you had another one talking about replacing the sounds on the op-z and here I am. Very helpful video. I was trying to decide between this and another device and part of what was swaying me away from the op-z was because of that recurring comment from other videos stating that the stock sounds weren’t great, and I kind of agreed with that statement based on the sounds I was hearing. But having watched your video, I’m confident in my original feeling that the op-z was what I am looking for. I love the design and workflow and being able to change the sounds so thoroughly seals the deal for me. Thanks for the video

I actually used the Percussive track for 6 lines of Vocals. Using the Ramp, conditional and Random Step components gave interesting results

Everyone of my favorite Youtuber's whom do music, all of them create their own sounds, samples, sound banks etc.
Wether it's the OP-Z, OP-1, Digitakt, Digitone, Octatrack or the platinum series PO's (the list is endless), the user creates, tweaks, or samples their own sounds.
It takes a bit more work and effort to make your own tonal palette but that's what makes you sound like you!
If your not into this process, you can even purchase or get tons of free sample sounds, from a very generous music community
Overall the OP-Z is a monstrous machine it's possibilities are limitless, for most basic applications (and then some) it's all you need.

Hey free beat. I love the OP-Z synth engines and the device in general. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial focusing on the tape track. Not a lot of youtubers really explain the functionality of the tape track and TE is infamous for not really making the most in-depth tutorials. I feel like you could do a deep dive for all us Zheads and show us how it’s done.

Also, is there a way to track out the audio from each OP-Z track in a DAW simultaneously. I’m aware of the mute playback trick, but that honestly takes a long time and it’d be more efficient to track out each track at the same time.

Couldn't agree more, I haven't do a ton of sampling, but I feel it is something not readily talked about (granted, that might have been because of the rocky launch of the feature). Great video.

My biggest issue with the OP-Z is still the lack of global mutes. For example, try chaining 4 patterns and then muting just the bassline. You can't do it. Mutes are done on a per-pattern basis, and it's incredibly frustrating when live performing with pattern chains.

The easiest solution is to just have a 'Toggle global mutes' setting in the json preferences.

The best solution would be to do a 'per pattern chain basis'. So mutes are done on a per-pattern basis, but if patterns are chained, then the next pattern in the chain sequence inherits the mutes from the previous pattern. The original mute settings are still stored in the pattern like they are currently. But once a pattern is grouped into a chain, the mutes of a pattern ignore what's stored in that pattern and just maintain what's already present.

correct me if im wrong, but i thought that each number for the synth tracks is a sound pack with up to 16 variations along the bottom row
either way, OP-Z is amazing. i love playing it thru a bad ass speaker system

any idea why when i try to play my samples does the sound drop out and get really weak? When i preview still in sample mode iot sounds fine until i try to use in a pattern. It;s like the opz just can't process enough or something.

Hi, nice video! One question: can you sample on the fly with the in-build mic like you do on the op-33?

I'm waiting for better sounds personally and the ability to record your voice while listening to the beat so it can be sampled to the same tempo, not sure why it's not available.

When sampling an external synth sound to the op-z (as you said you did): should you sample from the lowest frequency you plan to use? (e.g. do you effectively have a higher bitrate at the higher range when sampling from a low frequency? Do you get a worse bitrate at the low-end if you use higher pitched sample?)

Do you know the Bit Depth and Sample Rate of the OP-Z?

No, it doesn't. You just have to know what you're doing.

It’s the build quality on the instrument TE should be ashamed for a pricy thing that bends
