Thank you for your video. I currently have mostly cast iron and want to replace my plumbing stack which is cast iron and runs through a bedroom and family room. I'd like to maintain the quiet my stacks currently have. I have one section of stack in basement only that is PVC and it's incredibly noisy. I would never want to hear that level of noise in a bedroom or living space. I love the silence of the cast iron. Cast iron it is!

And when cast iron starts to rust, replace with plastic pipes. If plastic pipes make noise, replace with cast iron.

As far as I know, in Massachusetts it's not allowed, by code, to mix PVC and Cast iron pipes.

How do you make supply lines quiet? I don't have water hammer but the water from the tubs is loud until the showerhead is engaged. Why can't my bath and toilet run water quietly?

has anyone tried applying "rattle mat" or "dynamat" sound deadener to the outside of the PVC pipe? Its the same stuff they use on cars to make for a quiet interior ride. Its self adhesive...I bet it would work

Do these pipes have the same problem of build up over years that cast iron pipes have historically suffered from?  Or since it is only the vertical drop, perhaps that's not an issue?

I have heard that they have cast iron with glass lining to deaden the sound.

Interesting going back to the old ways maybe some of them weren't so bad. I'd be interested to hear more about rust, but assuming that the outside stays dry and moisture free and that the inside doesn't have standing water I would assume it would out last improperly installed stuff every time.

how about if i wrap the pipe with insulation?   & then duck tape & maybe some carpet underpad & more tape?

I'm remodeling my bathroom, all walls are insulated for soundproofing, my question is do I have to install a 6 mil vapor barrier on all walls and ceiling before drywall or just around tub/shower area

Hi Matt. If PVC pipes are typically put in now because they last longer, what are your thoughts on sound management of water by different drywall options, like installing quiet rock? Would such drywall prevent sound heard from inside the wall? Love your channel. Thanks

What about people who are not building? It’s to say this when no walls are up

Of course this guy would this route and say not that expensive. You know what’s not that expensive? Some nail-in half pipe clamps!

I need that ASAP. I can hear the water from upstairs in my dining room. Very Annoying lol

There's def a better way to dampen the sound without using cast iron pipes.
