Quest 3 Has Reached A Turning Point

The Meta Quest 3 has reached a turning point for standalone VR and the Quest 3S is going to make an even bigger impact. What do you think?

Quest 4 might be the point where graphics are so called "good enough" for majority of players. We have already hitted that point on pancake pc games where graphical updates haven't really mattered in past 10 years.

I agree. I had an oculus rift, but haven't been into VR for a good 5 years. Now seems like the time to jump back in, so I preordered a Quest 3s last week. Can't wait!

Wish Meta and developers more specifically didn’t abandon the rift store. Buying the quest version and getting the rift version free and vice versa ensured you got the best of both worlds without having to double dip for steam vr. So in this case I’ll just get the steam version since I have a 4080 to run it on.

Wouldn’t call it full parity but it is pretty close. I will say the Quest 3 doesn’t feel like a portable system which is amazing.

I've wanted to get myself a VR headset for years now. I almost did last year with the Meta Quest 2 and then I looked more into it and saw that the Meta Quest 3 was coming out soon so I waited. For the past year I battled with getting a Quest 3 or waiting for it to go on sale because I didn't know what I wanted from it exactly. Recently I saw Batman Arkham Shadow coming out soon and the price cuts on the both the 128GB and 512GB models and they were both bundled with Batman Arkham Shadow. It seemed like a no brainer at this point. The Batman Arkham games were such a huge part of my childhood and the developers at Camouflaj seem to really know what they are doing and respect the flat screen games. My interest into other VR experiences and games peaked from then on and I started looking into everything regarding the Quest 3. My Quest 3 is coming tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited to step into the world of VR. I am 21 years old and have never been inside of VR once which surprises me given that they have them at most big arcades now even. I saw where VR was headed when I almost got a Quest 2 last year and I see it even more now after purchasing the Quest 3. There is going to be a hell of a lot more coming to VR and I can't wait to be there for it.

I will leave this here because I keep seeing people mention PS4, Quest 3 graphics, and comparing VR visuals to flat screen games etc.

The Quest 3 actually has more teraflop processing power than the PS4. What some are not understanding is that VR games on the Quest 3 need to render the game TWO TIMES (once for each eye), which is different from flat screen games like The Last of Us 2 on the PS4 that only render the game ONCE.

Also, VR games on the Quest 3 run at a much higher resolution per eye (2064x2208) compared to the PS4’s 1080p single TV screen. The Quest 3 also runs ALL games at a higher frame rate (72-90fps) versus the PS4’s 30fps (60fps for some games). This means the Quest 3 is doing almost four times the graphical processing work to create a VR experience. The developers have to basically make a game that can run and meet those demanding requirements. Try running The Last of Us 2 at 4K 90fps on a regular PS4. (Not gonna happen)

On top of that, the Quest 3 also uses processing power to track hand movements and where the headset is moving in the real world. What is amazing is that the Quest 3 does all of that RUNNING ON BATTERIES.
