My favourite scene in Terrence Malick's masterpiece, The Thin Red Line.

Malick wasn't just trying to make a war film. He was trying to make the ultimate statement about humanity's role in the world, our obsession with conflict, our struggle with mortality, the contrast between man-made violence and the inherent violence found in nature. The political ramifications of WWII are downplayed in favor of a more spiritual and existential approach. I didn't appreciate the film when I was a teenager, instead preferring Badlands, but now that I'm an adult I can recognize it as a true masterpiece.

Zimmer with the most memorable score ever… cant even imagine this masterpiece of a film without the mesmerising score that lifts it up to be so poetic..

i was very let down when i saw this movie, expecting another Saving Private Ryan, but i was just too young and immature. Every rewatch this movie grows on me, and I consider it (along with Platoon) as the greatest war movie ever made. IT's a masterpiece, i just wasnt' open enough to see such a vision. but all these years later, i can't argue with the beauty he put to film.

Thank the writer of this book and his book “from here to eternity” he fought in the battle portrayed in this film and was wounded! RIP JAMES JONES thank you for writing the thin red line and in turn giving inspiration to create one of the greatest films ever made (thanks to Malik as well)

When I first saw this film, I thanked God I was alone. So then, I could wallow on the ground and cry. I knew instantly, this film was more than a film, it was the human condition set to encompas all the arts, visual, sound, theater. This truly is the perfect movie.

I must have watched this 3 times at the theater. Even years later I still feel this film in my soul . True beauty and honesty . Be well.

i fucking love how, to him, "the other shores" is a meaning to get a message to his wife from afar, and at the same time "the other shores" to the japanese means to the other side of a dying person whose soul has travelled past the point of life. And to that point in the movie, neither perspective can be taken to be the truth.

in my top 100 greatest movies of all time. Everything is shattered: Malick's war against the logic of the studios, the pure gesture of Malick which merges in blood and tears, the monstrous sequences of intensity and emotion, the crazy casting, the real sickness of movies, the crazy atmosphere, the cult plans of a beauty to commit suicide... Malick in a state of grace, Zimmer and di Lupica sail into another world. The greatest roles of Penn, Nolte and Caviezel. His greatest film, the most mastered. As if it were necessary to highlight his metaphysical and existential obsessions by shattering them in tears and savagery. Stunning fireworks

Saving Private Ryan: A single story of chaos and sacrifice for a stranger.

Thin Red Line: A series of inter-personal observations of war and its effects on the human condition.

Both symbolic and frankly poignant, regardless of who you are.

What a beatiful mix of music, poetry, glory and war. Reminds me when i was a student living with my friends in dormitory 10 years ago.
