The First Drive in my Rebuilt Ford Fiesta MK7 1.0L EcoBoost

In this video I take the MK7 that I previously bought crash damaged, and rebuilt, for its first proper drive out on the open road.

Apologies for the poor focus on the camera, I'm still learning how to use it and dynamic shots clearly require a different setup than what I've been using up to now.

But please, if you do like these kinds of videos then do let me know and I'll try and up my in-car footage game in the future!

I hope you enjoy the video.

The guy at McDonald's deserves a big shout out, he did tell you and try to change your mind twice😇

Glad to see that it all paid off. The MKVIII has a great chassis and it is good at covering ground. Mine does 600 miles through France once a month and it is a joy on a long trip.

I agree on the gears, I had the 1.6 naturally aspirated mk7 and could drive in 3rd gear for almost all types of junctions, roundabouts and tight bends, when moving to the mk7.5 turbo 1.0 I noticed I was downshifting at every bloody small loss of speed but am used to it now.

Lovely cars imo those Fiestas and Focus, nice cars for new drivers, car enthusiasts and daily drivers.

Another great video, keep them coming. Have to admit I’m impressed with the 1.0 EcoBoost as I switch between that and a 3.0 6 Cylinder BMW. Loved the food review too. Can’t wait for the next instalment.

You described exactly the difference I experienced between a Puma mild hybrid 1.0L 155ps and my Puma ST 1.5L 200ps. The ST just has a lot more torque and you don’t have to keep changing down a gear. It just seems to pull in what ever gear it’s in.

It takes a lot to surprise me I was very sceptical how quick them 1.0 are brought one myself. Quite fun really. I would love that engine in my class mini

Video answer for my question from last video :) great work! Dont change gears on 1.0 below 3000 ever and even fuel economy is better. tested

I think Ford should make a "thumper", a one cylinder 600cc engine. I know most people would think it was too noisy but I think it would be fun!

These engines do build boost much lower, it's just the turbo lag is crazy below about 2300 rpm. I regularly drive back roads in 4th gear around 40-45 mph (1800-2100 rpm) and I use the turbo to climb hills without shifting down. I just have to open the throttle a lot (not quite WOT) a few seconds before I really start climbing the hill so the turbo can spool up. I also tend to go through round-a-bouts in 3rd, so long as I don't have to slow down for other cars.

This car boosts from quite low. I think 1400rpm. It can pull from those revs but there is a bit of lag. Mine is 0 tax but it's the 100ps version. Might get it remapped at some point though

Hi Mike, just binged watch all your videos about the 1.0 ecoboost and was up till 2am and just watched this one this morning (+subbed) I have seen a few other videos and asked about the problem we have at the moment but no answers back at all, but I got a Love your comment! heart.. great :) anyway I`m old school and was doing old Pinto engines and 10 + years ago the 2ltr cosworth engines, I converted a 1.6 pinto saph azura into a 380bhp cossy crazy thing, but thats another story and dont want to bore everyone. So my little story I bought a 1.0 125ps mk3 titanium 2012 for my son to mess about with as he`s going to collage soon "he`s 16", Previous owner went out in it and everything was fine, then all of a sudden it just stopped, engine died and would not start again. Was towed it back home and started to try different things to why it will not start. We have fuel from low pressure as can hear the pump prime also unbolted the high pressure pipe to make sure fuel was getting to the pump, that was fine.. We did get a low pressure rail code and changed the hi pressure sensor, did nothing! but the code didnt come back!. Then we took one of the spark plugs out to make sure there was spark.. and yes its fine. We are going to take off the high pressure pump and swap it with my one that works as I have the same car just newer 2016 just to try and find a reason for it not to start (update as from today 12/6/2023 the pump didnt fit as it uses a different connector from the low pressure line) . Also just a piece of mind took the rocker cover off to make sure the belt was ok and at least still in place to make sure the cams were ok.. they move :) I know the high pressure pump is driven by the cam so hopefully when we take it off the cams not in 2 parts (updated as 12/6/23 Cams are fine the lobe on the end of the cam is like a double egg shape and pushes the piston up and down to operate the hi pressure fuel pump, that was fine), then Ill know the reason the pump was not working. When the car is cranking you do smell fuel so its coming from somewhere. Its strange how one minute it was running then just stopped with no error codes. Now it has no codes but just not starting.. totally baffled..! as from today its got spark, fuel & air, no codes ? I not got many of my tools from back then as change my hobbies like the wind due to attention disorder so give them away. Im now looking to buy the compression tester to see if we have any problems with that but we have no leaks and the water is still at correct level. Sorry to waffle on but looking at all the help you gained and more knowledge you found out someone on your channel might give some other ideas what to test and check next. cheeRS Lee...

Ecoboom wet belt.... Did you have to fit the new cambelt and tensioner from Ford for this engine due to the recent recall?

Once youve sorted the body work see about a map to liven it up a little. Mountune or collins are decent tuners .
