Whenever I sit alone and think of things like these, I inevitably end up questioning my existence, meaning of work and life, the need for the things we are creating etc. lol. Good to know others are also thinking about these things.

It's interesting to see the evolution of programmer-youtubers. They usually start off with solving coding interview questions, get really good at it, have a handful of offers from FAANG, vlog about being an actual engineer and somehow turn-around to becoming full-on philosophers! :D

This is refreshing to hear because I just graduated college and started work as a software engineer, and I definitely have no idea what I'm doing

I think my biggest struggle atm is knowing what I want to do now that I've graduated. For my company, they ask what I want to work on next to join a different team (teams are by contract) and I just don't know. I know how to program certain languages, but I'm not sure if I should be attempting to learning new skills or simply honing in on the ones I know. I throw buzzwords like ML and Data Science around, but I don't even know if I like that because I've barely done it..

Technology changes so rapidly, you have to be on a fast learning curve. AWS, Azure didn't even exist a few years ago, so everyone was new, even veteran programmers.

I had a coworker, who was a better coder than I was, that would cry when he is frustrated because he was lost. He later became a teacher instead of continuing coding. I hope he had heard this before quitting.

Great video. So relatable. Just brining up that you work with computers turns a lot of peoples brains off in conversation. I'm just as clueless on my future as the next guy and they think each day is planned out and I'm making the next Facebook.

For people that have a plan for their future, and follows that plan, it requires superior focus and drive. It means that the perception of what they want outweighs the value of all the things that pop-up as we go through life.

If you don't have a plan, have a roadmap. An idea of what you want to achieve. Embrace the new opportunities and experiences that present themselves. If you don't have a singular driving plan, that means that you put value in more diverse interests. And that's fine. Good or bad, make the most out of what comes your way. Go after what you want and what makes you happy. You'll come across lots of things in your life that will make you happy.

While I totally agree, I think it also helps to have those who have more experience than you give you an environment where it's okay if you don't know something. We've all worked with the more experienced engineer who has zero patience for the unknowledgable lol.
