HELLDIVERS™ 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.

Imagine you are running a restaurant... you notice that the majority of your customers keep ordering the soup instead of anything else you make because it is a damn good soup. But instead of making your other dishes as delicious as the soup, you intentionally make the soup worse and now you are wondering why you have no customers. This is AH logic right here.

One thing I find super odd about Arrowhead nerfing fire against armor is that heat will affect what lies under that armor and armored foes still have weak spots that will be affected by fire anyway.

The automatons have circuitry and wiring. These things are extremely sensitive to heat. I had to rewire a section of a truck recently because some wear to the wiring had led to heat causing the truck to think the door was ajar and setting off its alarm. You can cook electronics just like you can cook anything else.

The really funny part about this is that he would have got his ass handed to him with the pre-nerf flamethrower as well. Its not easy. It never was.

Honestly, at this point, shit's more like an abusive relationship. Players are outraged, devs say they'll listen and work to make things better, players forgive them, devs come back with more nerfs, players are outraged, repeat ad infinitum at this point.

Would be kinda funny if AH not only fixed this mess but also had some fun with it.

-Make an in-game dispatch claiming that to save on costs, the quality of weapons will be reduced, and helldivers will be expected to just "fight harder".

-The bots get to Super Earth. Suddenly all weapons are buffed or returned to un-nerfed status, explained in universe as a desperate attempt by high command to defend their home planet.

-None of the affected weapons are nerfed back, and with some 1984 esque shenanigans, we are told that the weaker weapons and stratagems were the result of dissident factory workers or something.


None of this will happen, I think, but a man can dream.

People are upset because this is not the first time. Also in a game with 40 min missions and so prone to crashing we don't have a rejoin feature, a basic system that other similar games have since beta.

As long as the developer from Hello Neighbor is still part of the balancing change, things aren’t going to change. Pilsteadt goes on vacation and the first thing that happens while he isn’t there are unnecessary nerfs. The common denominator is clearly him and he shouldn’t be touching balancing at all at this point, yet arrowhead refuses to do anything about it.

If they were actually going for fire realism, then living creatures would actually react to being on fire instead of just marching on straight at you.

What they are capturing with their game is the reality of being in the military. Frustration, broken equipment and proceedures, and a refusal to take action on valid feedback. It's almost like I am back in the Air Force.

The golden rule of balance changes in games: Don't nerf meta weapons, buff other weapons to be more competitive. If you nerf, you are effectively punishing players since they now get less reward for more playtime/skill. A simple metaphor: If someone brings their car in to a garage and they have 3 tires with low pressure and 1 with normal pressure, you don't lower the pressure of the normal tire to match the others, you increase the pressure of the others. Arrowhead seemingly lacks the developmental experience to know that this tried and tested rule is what makes or breaks dev studios...
