The original one sounds more... Metal Zone! 😁
Boss owns Ola a big favor!

The "Standard" versus "Custom" is a component bypass. I did that on my Metal Zone, and I got the same effect: Moving the switch lowers the high end. It's cool, took a little bit, and saved me some money, haha!! It's not an original idea. If you are handy with a soldering iron and a drill, you can give it a try.

I like the original. I’ve mastered the eq settings and it is my go to for leads.

The Metal Zone seems like it’s basically a DS-1 with a built-in amp modeler & equalizer, and the WC sounds like a capacitor circuit filtering out certain highs & high mids, which would explain the lowered noise levels.

Bought mine in '92/93ish. Still have it, never found a better distortion pedal personally.

Recently got the Waza craft for my pedal board I use in my grunge/alt band i am in. Yesterday actually! Dialled a cool sound so far, love it! I got it new from a guy on eBay local to me for £115.

a pedal that new players get but are the last people who should get it

Ahhh you have got the configuration of the Metal Zone to go through the effects return! Yes this way sounds soooo much better

I bought this one when it first came out and I always enjoyed the tone settings Low at 3 o'clock High at 3 o'clock Mid at 11 o'clock Mid Fre at 1 o'clock Dis at 1 o'clock and Gain at 12 o'clock. Great Metal tone to pull off Dime style riffs.

The Custom mode seemed to work better in front of the amp rather than in the fx loop return on CSguitars vid.

I'm many years late to this video. I have the MT-2. I think its a great pedal but I never really liked it as a stand alone drive. Its true potential for me was unlocked when I turned down its gain to almost nothing and then ran a JHS Bonsai into the front end of it with the Bonsai dancing around 3/4 gain. Amazing. Running a TS into the front end of this thing really wakes it up and balances out the high end screech. Like butter.

The only issue with using the same settings is the variable in potentiometer ratings like thebtube screamers the pots can very so 500k resistance pot can range i think from 448k-512k which can make one seem darker or like it has less gain. The variables make it not quite the same pedal.

I particularly like the custom mode on bass in combination with a LS-2 mixing some dry signal back in, and also on synthesizers also with an LS-2 mixing in dry signal. I find the standard mode most useful with guitar, personally.

Incidentally, I actually preferred the original Metal Zone on certain examples. The new one indeed has more clarity but that also kinda brings it slightly out of the original territory of the original that I like. The somewhat less clear sound is kinda distinctive in a way that I enjoy. However, there are also examples where I preferred the standard mode on the new one to the original. I’m glad I have the Waza Craft one, but I can still see why someone might prefer the original.

They should have put a noise gate on it

Just a simple capacitor is all you need to clean up noise and take out a bit of treble.

Actually god this pedal early and I guess I using it the modern way on an old Peavey 160 and it was amazing.

Conclusion: For modern metal use old metal zone
For old school metal use nu metal zone
