she speaks English like I spoke French for my speaking exams, so it makes sense why she's speaking in these set sentences

Man peopled in the comments are really brutal about her sounding robotic… the way we learn English (for spoken exams at least)in Germany is through memorising phrases. We are told that answers need to include a certain set of information and must be phrased a certain way in order to get the highest grades, which is probably her intention. This girl is probably 15/16, sitting in front of an examiner AND a camera. Imagine how nervous you’d be. And for that she’s doing a good job.

I see a lot of criticism on a script, but as an educator myself we have to note that this is an important exam that can be compared to AP exams or IB exams in the USA. WE are taught to those tests, and by this script she’s absolutely able to carry on a random convo in English. I’m very proud of her! She’s done a phenomenal job in this part of the exam and I feel like it continued to be a great test for her.

😂 they forced me to do this when applying for my degree even though I had an A in English and was from an English speaking country. Let’s just say I had a therapy session and talked a lot about my cat and left. 😂

How learning a script could help you pass an exam? People dont talk like that. It is like watching bad theatrical performance. Delivery is bland, there are no pauses or time to think up the words you want to say. The only thing that can check is pronounce.

this sounds like how i imagine i sound when i speak german at school, very cookie cutter sentences that you've just memorised, you dont actually learn the language properly this way though, if you were to try and engage a conversation where i speak just like i do english, i would have no idea what to say
