Why do Protestant and Evangelical pastors perpetually feel the need to attack the Catholic Church and Her teachings? Mike Gendron is an ex-Catholic who, according to him, was in spiritual bondage as a Catholic; now, as an Evangelical Christian, he devotes the majority of his time and effort attempting to convert Catholics to Evangelicalism, and he even speaks at conferences to teach other Evangelicals how to convert Catholics. He spends an hour talking to Evangelicals regarding the "twisted" doctrines of the Catholic Church. I will debunk and correct his caricatures and misrepresentations.

One of the stories Mike has invented recently is that when he was a teen, he was a "good friend" of Padre Pio. He claims he went to visit him with his uncle a priest and they would "Co-celebrate" sic. the Mass.
It's well known that because of his age, Padre Pio was given an indult to continue to offer what we now call the EF. The rubrics of the EF did not allow for "Con-Celebration" Mike has admitted to me that he and his uncle did not speak Italian, even now as he prepares to start a mission to Catholics in Italy, he needs a translator. While it is true that Con-celebration was permitted in the Latin Rite from 1964 until it was made universal in 1970 with the Missal of Pope St. Paul VI, during the years of 1964 to his death in 1968 it was only permitted for large gatherings such as General Meetings of Religious Orders with the Superior General or a Cardinal as the Main Celebrant. Not what Mike describes. '
It is hard to imagine that a priest who was non-Capuchin missionary to the South Pacific, and his nephew would have time to become what Mike says he was, "A Good Friend" of Padre Pio for another reason. Padre Pio would take two to three hours to offer a low Mass, then would spend up to eight or more hours hearing confessions. He also had to eat, sleep, and participate in community activities like joining his fellow Capuchins in praying the Office. He had to work with the people who assisted him with his correspondence, not just because of the volume of mail, but also because the letters came from around the world and he needed not just typists but bi-lingual assistants, leaving very little time to become a good friend of a priest and teen who did not speak Italian to become chums

He is really the worse that they have at arguing against Catholicism because he uses the same old tired clichés that a have been around for decades. His arguments are so easily refuted, so I would love to run into him one day and debate him on the street because even someone like myself who isn’t trained in apologetics could take him on. What’s even better than that is the fact that he actually is more of a benefit to us because his arguments are so tired that anyone who spends any bit of time looking into what he says will ultimately come home to the Catholic Church.

I've always heard of something interesting about infallible teachings by popes. It's not that they are creating the doctrine. It is them affirming that this doctrine is true. It's not like at the councils they decided let's see if we can come up with a reason for the immaculate conception. In reality it's talked about by many Christians on whether this is true or whether we should believe it. This is especially important with heresy. All the pope is doing is affirming that this lines up with scripture and makes sense and will not damn us to hell.

As a cradle Catholic Mike Gendron confuses me. I highly suspect he was not Catholic in the first place because even bad formation would not explain the countless errors he makes about our faith. The other option is he slept through Mass.

One of the reasons I find it difficult to trust Mike Gendron is his claim that he never opened a Bible until he was 35 years old. If he was ever truly Catholic, he would have heard at least three Bible readings every time he went to Mass.
