Though, it would be even more cool if you could rotate the hemisphere (around the vertical axis, that is!) and have (some of) the animations react to that. Maybe a bit further than you want to go, but an interesting thought nonetheless!

It's basically a beamer that produces dented images to fit a sphere

Is it just a round display under it or did you make a flex PCB with a ton of RGB LEDs that lines the inside of the sphere.

I had a better idea a bit ago. Inside-Out VR - where the sphere is a vr world and as you hold it and walk around in our world the surface of the sphere changes so its like as you move in this one, you're oving in the other simultaneously. I thought these would be cool for jewely too as you could have one thats the Hubble Deep field and as you move the position of the galaxies do too. Give me a follow so I remember and I'll send you a video of what I've got so far.
