I learned to parent for the book The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran. Your children are not yours, they’re life’s children! They come through you, you can give them them love but not your thought and they’re here to teach you!🙏🏽

Ver y intelligent woman. Articulate, engaging, and beautiful. She seems very interested in expanding her knowledge instead of falling back on what is considered fact.

“ Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself. They came through you but not from you, and though they are with you and yet they belong not to you. “

—— Khalil Gibran (1883-1931)
Lebanese-American Writer & Poet ☮️🕊💚

It’s worth reading the poem in its entirety. This quote is only the beginning stanza.

It’s mind blowing that every time I find someone online and watch all their videos non stop and I’ve become a huge fan of, another one of the people I admire so deeply is doing a podcast together. Wow. Thank you! I really love it

Love love love Shefali!!!! I feel her conscious parenting could be translated to how we could interact as a society with each other, not just our children. She's just amazing!

I’ve discovered Dr Shefali years ago. I was struggling with my 11 yr old daughter . I had never heard anyone talk about parenting the way she did.
My daughter is almost 17 and we are in such a better place . We have been for a couple of years now. It will take a while fo see results and the self work is ongoing . I’m so grateful that such an amazing human is out in the world educating about the through meaning of being a parent .
Thank you Russel for having her on 🇨🇦👩🏻

I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. It reminded me of this from Kahlil Gibran - “Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself… You may give them your love but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow…”

If you wait to be spiritually aware before you have children, you will never have children. It's the same thing as people wanting to be financially secure, it usually doesn't happen.
Not only that but much of our awareness comes from raising children, those are lessons we can only learn through experience
Being a parent is complicated, it's more than just sending kids off to school and feeding them at night. Staying home with your children is a rewarding experience that a lot of parents cannot handle. There are many things to teach them if we are patient. And it is very humbling

I really like her!! She is one of my most favorite guests that you have had. I am very thankful to learn from her and to keep checking my ego. Children are not ours, we can not crush their inner spirit with our own needs. I am not a mom yet, but when they are ready to join me and my husband in this world, we will be waiting to help guide them.

I find this Lady, fascinating, I struggle with my Mental Health on a daily basis, but what she has been talking about makes sense, I have 3 teenage Boys and try my best to learn from them as well as me teaching them, because Kids Are AWESOME and We As Adults can Learn So Much from them as they do from adults, life comes with many challenges and Parenting is challenging but the Rewards out way the difficult times, Love and patience is key and lots of Understanding 💜💕

greatest lesson in formless level of consciousness was the loss of my child, causes one to go deep for a better understanding of the "illusion". Our Children are our guru's, our greatest teachers. Love your videos Russell, challenging us all to think and stretch our minds beyond the mundane monkey mind

Wow, this confined title, at least the parenting bit, doesn`t give justice to the broadness & immensity of such fundamental pearls of wisdom & TRUTH. Bless.

I'm not evolving evolution implies you keep something. But it is effortless. I see you. I have finally let go of some ideas that are not helping me. I was fixed without feeling free. I am grateful for this change. But change is more letting go in our mental environment. We are relaxing slipping into a more peaceful dream. Thank you so much

This is so close to heart <3 I'm Chinese born in Vietnam. Raised by a Buddhist belief and still a very uncomfortable upbringing. A rebel and empatth at heart. The anger, the compassion and understanding of life was hard. A single mum myself and fought for what I felt right for so long. Lost a brother to drugs and everything I made safe. You get the rest. Thank you for your story, how it awakens my path worth continuing.

A lot of the points made here I think are quite significant. For me its not about ego and dominance with my children, its about trying to prevent the generational dysfunctions from being passed down any further. By naming the issues, making them aware of the commanalities of the struggles we have all been afflicted with because of those generational dysfunctions at the root. So that we can seek healing from it and learn a new way ahead. So that they can pass on better teachings and their children will be more functional and thrive more.

My partner and I both believe in the power of the gift of time and one on one with our son . I gave up my career and raised him and when he went to school I worked a job that suited his schedule including holidays so I could be present. At times I feel bad about our financial situation and I worry about our financial future but then I see and hear him mirroring compassionate morals, open minded kindness, work ethic values, self esteem and general personal qualities and I'm so proud of the job we've done .Now as a teen he is very much his own person and we need to respect autonomy in our children but time, patience, teaching by example and being loving does influence their development and puts them out into the world unbroken and able to influence humanity in a positive way . The human spirit is amazing .I was parented by a violent, cruel, dismissive mother and deep down I still hold the emotional scars but it also taught me how I needed to mother my child .I worked on my emotional wounds before having my son and see him as a gift not a right. I'm so proud of him . Russell B is brilliant, the world needs men like this . 💕💕💕

I've now taken my whole spiritual path in another direction and its working there has been several instances that would have set me off lately that ive been aware of in my head at the time. and I've said no just ignore these feelings and remain calm . my anxiety has held me back in so many ways countless times. it feels like I'm finally getting a hold of it

Dr. Shafali saying that the usual parenting paradigm is control matches my instinct that kids don't want their parents around nearly as much as the parents think they do, "quality time" and all that. I relished my time away from my parents, and was very independent as a kid. And when people say they want to have kids, I wish they would first think very seriously about why.
