As a person who's hair can't be straight and curls everytime, I can relate to this in the parallel universe.

If she dyes and bleaches her a lot, it could just be from damage. My sister is a cosmetologist and I learn more than I need to from it, which is how I know that hair that is damaged can be immune to curling or straightening.

Edit: Okay so to the people commenting saying their virgin hair won't take heat or hold a style, sorry, but I have no idea what causes that. Since I'm not the one who went to a cosmetology school for 10 months, I can only say what I know about dye and bleach damage as it appears to be the cause in this video.

“Because of how much nothing occurs.”
I felt that.

If it makes you feel better I get this a lot as a stylist. People tell me this all the time.
So the advice I give, is start at your root and work your way to the end of your hair. Your roots and mids take longer to curl than your ends. Also use a curling iron that is slightly smaller than the curl you want. So you can allow for gravity pulling the curl out, and when your run your fingers or a brush through it, if you're still having issues, wrap up the curl pin it to your head, along to cool, until all the curls are not hot. If you play with it, regardless if you don't pin, while it's hot, it will pull out the curl.
Also it looks like you're using a 2 inch curling iron. They're more so meant to give volume and slight moment, not really a curl. If you like bigger curls, I'd suggest using a 1 inch, and taking bigger sections, or use a 1.5 inch and use smaller sections.
Hopefully that helps you or someone else! Lol.

Don't spray or put anything else on the curl because it just add weight to your hair, so it won't last long. Instead just twist it, pin it and wait until it cools down; then you can style it as you wish.

Also just a tip, because my hair is also straight and very heavy, use a flat iron... I don't know why but it works better than a curling iron☺️

I knew a girl in an opera company I was in whose hair was naturally so straight and slippery that she couldn’t do ANYTHING different with it. We were playing characters who needed to have disheveled hair, so we were all back-combing our hair and using lots of spray. Hers just kept falling back down and going straight lol. Maybe if she’d let it be unwashed for a day it would have more texture to respond with, but idk it was wild.

As someone with curly frizzy hair I wish I had nice straight hair like you . We always want what we don't have.

I would try small braids overnight if you're wanting an effect like that. You may also try smaller sections with a smaller Barrell. Either way, you're hilarious and beautiful and your hair is beautiful.

I’m gonna be honest I’m a cosmetologist and their could be a few reasons why your hair isn’t curling and holding curl, you have obviously bleached your hair and that causes a lot of damage and sometimes over processed hair won’t hold curl, also your barrell is huge just get a smaller iron for tighter curls they will last longer, also number three once you get a smaller iron after you do the curl don’t let it down and spray it leave is in the coil after you take it off the iron and clip it to your scalp immediately do all your hair like this let them all completely cool them take them down, what’s happening is when you put heat on your hair your breaking the bonds and when it cools they close back up hints why curls will look better and last longer this way, hope that helps!

Basically some people's hair doesn't curl with heat but cold- when ur hair is damp twist and roll it up and clip it... obviously it'll take time so wait for an hour and a half!! Hope for good results!

I had a friend who got a perm so she could have waves, it fell out less than 12 hours later. She went back, they refunded her, redid it and told her to not come back. That also fell out within a day. Her hair was pin straight and that was it. No matter the heat, product, treatment, it didn't matter.

Your hair would curl if you didn’t use such a big barrel. Those are just for loose waves. Also hairspray will weigh it down and make the curl not last.

you were right when you said, “maybe i just don’t know how to curl my hair.” it’s not that your hair doesn’t curl, it’s just that you aren’t doing it properly. :] curling iron’s barrel is too big, when you spray your hair that much it weighs the curl down and/or the wetness makes the curl flat, the way you “untwist” it also distorts the curl further. your hair likely CAN curl, but the way you do it makes it so that it doesn’t stay.

Honestly this is a great example of how bleached, fine hair responds to heat haha! If you want it curled, using decent curling product, a smaller barrel and making sure to let the hair fully cool down when holding it in the curl before spraying and such will help exponentially

I feel your pain! My flat hair never holds any curls either!

Try curling it with a straightener. My hair doesn’t curl well with a curler but the straightener works great!

She should just try a smaller barrel! That barrel is too big for good curls. Maybe higher heat too, that's what used to work for me (with heat protectant spray)

The iron being used here is way too big for proper curls. These bigger barrels are for a "blow out" look. Recommend switching to a 1.5 inch!

oh same, Sam, same!

I had a very frustrated hairdresser try to get my hair to hold a curl when I was a bridesmaid. Anything she did dropped out in less than ten minutes. She was determined though. I ended up with like 5 products and a few different methods, managed to keep a slight curl until after the photos were done. They were long gone by the time we sat down to eat. It took me longer to wash all the product out. Never bothered trying again since lol.

When I was about 14 perms were in (it was the 80s), I wanted wavy hair, like a loose curl. My mum decided she could do it at home. She followed the instructions to the letter. I ended up with a head of extra straight hair and one large ball of fuzz in my curtain fringe/bang on one side. That ball of frizz lasted almost 3 years, I had to constantly clip it back, I used one of those comb clips that you kinda push in and turn it back on itself...only thing that tamed it lol. The 80s was awesome, my hair is a law to itself 😆
