Pro-Tip One thing everyone needs to know is make sure the O-Ring comes off with the pan!

You made a very good point nearly at the end of your video about trying to put the same amount of fluid back in compared to the amount that was taken out. I've been researching about how to do this with my BMW 528i 2011. I didn't pick this up on the other videos or instructions about how to put in the same amount of fluid that was taken out and I see now it can be a challenge. Anyone else, seeing this post hopefully have a few insights or experiences to comment on what to do if you've already filled the transmission with fluid, but is much less than what has been drained out. What other methods can be used?

But remember after filling you must left car on for 30 min to get rid of air from Transmission

Thank you so much for this video. As a fellow youtuber I really appreciate it. Helped me a lot.

What went wrong is that you have a transmission oil cooler in that car, and it’s thermostat doesn’t open up until 75C, which is pretty hot.

I'm in the middle of changing the fluid on my '15 F30. Drained out 4.37 liters over an hour. Only able to add back in 2.35 liters on cold fill??? Difficult to insert the fill tube up into the tranny pan. I was expecting to do 3 liters cold and 1.5 on the warm fill. I leveled the car like you did with a bubble level on the bottom of the pan. Wondering if the pan is supposed to slope on an angle and maybe I didn't get the back end high enough???

1) What did you use to accurately measure all of the fluid extracted? 2) Could you use your method to jack up one side of the car to refill all of the measured fluid in one go without the gear shifting procedure?

Yeah one of my Boat broke it sucks but the torque spec they tell you Torque it a lot less 9nm Try to get a hand tight or use a very small torque wrench

Great Video helped me a great deal. After watching your video i did mine. It took around 5.5 litres, very smooth gear changes now. Do you know how much fluid there is in total including torque converter ?

Can I use bmw atf3+ fluid or is it the same exact thing as the zf fluid

You should have the wood under the wheel, running the same direction of the wheel instead of perpendicular to it.

2 years later - how’s the car running, how many kilometers on it now? And have you done another fluid change?

Whenever I slow down at a stop light or sign my car rpm drops and it switches from drive to park by itself and then a message pops up saying transmission malfunction. Does this video solve my problem or is it something else

Thank you for the helpful video.

"...very important: Keep the engine running when you fill the oil the second time....The transmission must be shifted to P and temperature has to be under 50C"

When oil overflows, you're done. Torque the fill plug to 35Nm (26 ft-lb) -- my Bentley manual specifies this torque.

I replaced the filter & fluid yesterday in my 2014 BMW 328GT (F34) 2-liter, ZF 8-speed automatic, following the video's procedure. I measured a little more than 4.5 liters draining out, letting it drain for 20 minutes when the drips stopped. I filled a little more than 3 liters, capped the fill hole finger tight, started the engine and cycled through the gears, going from P, R, D and then click-shifted up and down through all 8 gears, finally shifting back to P. With engine STILL RUNNING, I used my finger to sense the oil, which needed to be between 104-122F (very warm bath water but not extremely hot). Then I filled till overflowing, at which time I capped it and torqued the fill plug to approx. 35Nm (not enough space for my torque wrench).
I filled approx. 4.5 liters--about the same that drained out. I have no idea why you get 6 liters while I got only 4.5.
