The point about languages is wrong. The fact that Ukrainians understand russian is because of centuries of occupation. That is why Ukrainians understand russian, in contrary russian speakers that are living in russia(important not Ukraine) would not understand the language. The point you just made is like saying hindu is similiar to english because people in India understand each other in these languages interchangeably.

I graduated from KPI University 12 years ago and I never heard about racism during my time there. I studied alongside a Chinese student and someone from Africa (although I unfortunately don't remember which country they were from). Additionally, Beleniuk Zhan Vensanovych is a Black deputy in the Ukrainian Parliament. I have never heard of a Black man being in the Russian Duma.

This is kind of a disappointing statistics, even unbelievable. My country is certainly better than this. I sure do hope it is... What are these offshores Zelensky has, he's no oligharh, why would he need that? How can Ukraine be more antisemitic than Russia, we literally got a jew president, and plenty of parliament, ministers and other elites are also jews, this doesnt make any sense. Nor do I understand racism, nor do I know anyone who would do something hateful on the grounds of race, this is unthinkable! The only reason I can guess why Ukraine seems on par with Russia in terms of racism is that in the latter much more cases of hate crimes are simply being ignored or shoved under the rug. About alcoholism is maybe true, but far not on the level of Russia, they basically worship the bottle. A trait we took after the Russians during their lasting occupation. That occupation also explains why so many Ukrainians know Russian, the reason is absolutely not that it's some brotherly language, and it works only one way, Russians do not understand Ukrainian but Belarussians and Ukrainians do know Russian, why? Because our ancestors were forced to learn it as a subdued people.

The ironic thing about all this is that the whole war was based on Putin's assumption that they're not really that different and might as well be Russian, but an invasion is pretty much the best way for people to really start defining themselves as different.

If they weren't different before, they're definitely going to be from now on.

ukranian vs russian mentality:
russians = bread > freedom
ukranians = freedom > bread

actually you told the tip of the iceberg, this is a complex topic. Ukrainians and Russians are not similar, they have completely different mentalities

when I was a student, I lived on the floor with foreign students. I made friends with guys from Africa. Never heard of racism or anything like that. The university was KPI, it's a huge one

About Ukrainian and Russian (I speak both) - many words are identical or almost identical, but many differ, too + alphabets are a bit different, too. So Russian is kinda similar, but not too similar (there are a few words from French, Polish, etc. languages in Russian). For instance, Belarusian and Polish languages have more similarities with Ukrainian, as they are more Slavic.

The whole racism thing never made sense to me growing up in Ukraine. It wasn't present in my city (cities closer to the west are generally more liberal, plus where I'm from have a ton of Africans coming for education), but I imagine it is more profound to the east and in rural areas. At least after the war most of our hatred will be probably spent on russians lol

No one gonna talk about the guy on the left in the thumbnail looking exactly like Major Armstrong from Full Metal Alchemist? 😂

There’s a channel called “1420 by Daniil” that lives in Russia, and asks civilians all types of questions regarding the war. I’ve been watching him since it began. Gives a lot of insight into what the people are thinking and being told.

I heard another story. When war started in Ukraine and there was only place for women with children in the trains, black people grabbed children and said that they would give them back to moms only if they are allowed to have a sit in the train. I don't know where you found information about racism. There is almost no racism in Ukraine unlike russia

Putin looks european because he has blue eyes and blond hair? Are you joking? You don´t see the shape of his eyes? 😀
The difference between Ukrainians and Russians is: Ukrainians are more mixed with balkans and turks while Russians are more mixed with Mongols and Finno-Ugrics. Thats it.

we had a black guy from Congo in my group, in university.. and at first he was treated well, but after he was using his skin colour as an excuse of having poor marks (like 30 out of 100, and he didn't even deserve that, as he had 0 knoledge in most fields)... people around him stoped to treat him respectfully, and even some times called him racist names.. but still it never went further then that.. he finished the university and went back safe and sound

As someone who immigrated into USA from Russia back in 2002 due to lack of a future, I find it ironic that people migrate into Russia.
