The Giant 100-Foot-Long Tidal Wave Torpedo

Status-6 Poseidon is the latest weapon to light up Russian propaganda organs. An extremely long-range missile that can travel at high speeds and cause massive damage, it is said that Poseidon's nuclear warhead could be as high as two megatons.

According to Russian newscasters, the Poseidon project could create a tidal wave that could destroy the surroundings of any coastal target, thus generating wide radioactive contamination that would render large worldwide areas unsuitable for military, economic, or human activity.

Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be the first time that Russia has been caught baffling, and they are known around the world for using state-owned news and social media to over-state military capabilities and trumpet their supposed effect.

While many Western skeptics believe that this novel weapon is all booster and no payload, it is also possible that Russia might already have a nuclear device with doomsday capabilities...

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to fire.

A 2 megaton explosion seems like a lot when it's happening in front of you, but that amount of energy is routinely superceded by natural forces, Krakatoa didn't create a 1000ft tidal wave that wiped out half a continent and that absolutely dwarfed the explosive potential of a 10 megaton nuke

It was always very trippy to me how one of most top secret parts of a submarine is the propellers, lol.

All booster and no payload is a phrase I'm gonna shamelessly copy. Thank you as always for the great videos

What everybody (maybe even the russians too) seem to forget is that this type of wave (tsunami) in the deep ocean is a movement of energy NOT of mass. In other words if the detonation occurs in water deep enough to create a massive tidal wave the radiation does not come ashore with the wave. If the detonation occurs in shallow enough water to cause mass displacement and radiation to come ashore, then the wave created is relatively speaking, rather small. Sorry Ivan, but can't have your cake and eat it too, bummer! PS - the proposed yield of this weapon is 100 megatons.

The Poseidon is actually big enough that it can theoretically fit a 100 megaton bomb. 2 megatons just doesn't seem like enough to cause the apocalyptic irradiated tsunami they claim but 100MT, that would do it.

The proposed yield is not 2 Mt, but 100 Mt. One warhead of 2 Mt is not very big, but the actual size of the Status 6 is really massive, so I guess they are right about 100 Mt yield instead of the yield suggested in the video. If you compare the size of the RDS 220 AKA Tsar Bomb and the size of the Status 6 torpedo, then all fits.
Thanks for your videos.
Very informative.

Given that this is the Russian Navy we're talking about, one question remains: does it need to have a tug-torpedo following it everywhere in case it breaks down?

For as large as the torpedo is compared to the tsar bomb and not limited by weight by a plane or rocket delivery. I’d imagine the yield is a lot greater than 2mt.

At 55 MPH underwater, it doesn’t sound like it will be hard to detect

2 megatons? I think Russia could quite easily put a 200 megaton warhead in that thing. If your objective is to create a tsunami, then you will want to maximise your detonation. Remember, Tsar Bomba was a de-tuned 100 megaton class weapon that they successfully air dropped in 1961. It was 8m by 2m and weighed 27, 000kg. Since then, advances in design have allowed thermonuclear weapons to be significantly miniaturised.

Submarines are not the only platform capable of launching this type of weapon system. Surface vessels could carry and deploy the torpedo with fewer modifications.

Lol let's be honest. All of the money for development was embezzled and they have a metal tube with a bit of concrete in it. 😂😂😂

I've also heard that during a war between the United States and Russia, Poseidon could be used against American ballistic missile submarines operating underwater.

I read 200MT not 2MT as it was supposed to be 2x more powerful than the originally planned Tsar Bomba which was 100MT (50mt as tested)

Russia's reputation of exaggerating its capabilities is very well known.

It's supposed to be 100+ megatons, not just 2 megatons.
