In this video, we demonstrate methods to properly clean and maintain your barbell. We go over simple and inexpensive methods to keep your barbell in great shape for a long period of time! We also cover the bushing/bearing lubrication at the end so stay tuned for that!

A barbell is an important and expensive piece of equipment in your gym. Just like a car, you need to maintain it so that you can get the most out of it. Barbells frequently build up dust particles, sweat, chalk, and other. If left on your barbell for prolonged periods of time these contaminants could potentially harm the finish.Another reason is of course, for aesthetics. Barbells are a relatively expensive investment and we always recommend this cleaning procedure, which will keep it looking almost brand new.

Note that to keep your barbell in the best possible shape, you should be wiping it down with a clean rag after each use. That way, you won’t have so much of a mess to clean up to begin with.

The products that you’ll need to clean your barbell are two microfiber cloths, a nylon bristle brush with bristles that are just firm enough to agitate and remove grime from your barbell, and a lubricating oil. Bar Shield is a terrific product specifically created for this purpose but if you don’t have access to it, three-in-one is a great alternative.
