The nether update makes it so easy to get enderpearls now, however it takes a while longer to find blaze rods

A few other things I would recommend:
- Set your spawnpoint at the stronghold and have a chest full of backup gear in case you die. Be ready to fight the dragon with that gear if necessary.
- He did mention it later, but not during the main gear list, so bring a few torches so you can break the egg once you finish fighting the dragon
- If you want to collect some dragon's breath (advancement: You Need a Mint), bring some empty glass bottles too.
