Strange hub 'issue' on Lego Mindstorms 51515 hub

I dont know if it shows the lcd display but the buttons and sound works

It’s not an issue, its a feature which helps you keep the hub not heavy in builds that require such. You could plug in a battery pack and hold it while your project is running! It is also big enough to fit an entire motor so it could be a motor hat (for smaller builds)

Spike prime/essential and this kit have rechargable bateries unlike mindstorms NXT and EV3 which run on if I remember correctly Double AA's for ev3 and Im not sure about nxt

tested my spike prime. same thing, but no need to press button for startup

That’s not an issue. It’s simply some power going from the computer to the hub

Wireless Xbox controllers are the same way. You can have no batteries in the device and have it plugged in and it.still works fine
