Tyrion could do no wrong in the show, that is why he wasnt killed in the last episode.

Sansa hated all the Lannisters by the time she married Tyrion in the books.
And book Tyrion isn't charming, he's bitter and gross

The comments section is funny because Drogo was 31 and Daenerys was 13.

It should be mentioned that there is a paragraph in book 3 where sansa admits that in all of jofferys court, only Tyrion and the hound ever treated her with kindness. And she even sees them as her only allies. But then the battle of blackwater happens, the hound leaves and Tyrion is surplanted as the hand, and sansa is left friendless until Margery comes to court.

To be fair, this still kinda presents Tyrion as an honorable character in Westeros.

There are not many male characters in Westeros that would’ve yielded to Sansa’s request. She was a prisoner, her family were considered traitors to the crown, and the only reason that she was married in to the Lannisters was to produce an heir to the North. Pretty much anyone but Tyrion would’ve forced her.

Tyrion in the Books is bitter about his wedding to Sansa because he sees it as another joke. He gets saddled with a child-bride who hates him and his family and who once dreamed of knights and princes. He’s bitter because all he wants is to be loved, and yet he knows that Sansa Stark is the last person who could ever love him, a Lannister and a Dwarf. She hates everything about him.

Keep in mind also that Tyrion doesn’t canonically want to have sex with a 12-year old. He merely wants to get his duty over with and to produce an heir so that Tywin will get off of his back about it. I think it’s pretty understandable, as he knows that he and Sansa will have to produce an heir soon unless they want to face Tywin’s wrath. Running away from reality doesn’t make it any less real. Tyrion isn’t a nice guy, but he’s not a monster.

Tyrion made a big spectacle at the wedding feast, acting very very drunk. When they are alone in the bedchamber, he tells her he’s not as drunk as he seems. We see it from Sansa’s perspective so we don’t know much, but I think he acted very drunk infront of everyone as an excuse for him to not consummate the marriage. Yes he wanted her, but he didn’t want to want her. Everyone assumed he was too drunk to consummate.

In the books Tyrion is actually kind of upset with Sansa for not realizing what a great guy he is. Because, you know, he DIDN'T rape her. He honestly expects Sansa to appreciate that. I love the character, but book Tyrion is very different from show Tyrion.

Sansa was only twelve in the books. I wouldn't want anything to do with Tyrion either. So unfortunately, good-hearted banter would be impossible due to the age gap.

Frankly, every character was aged up by three to five years in the show, which is good for child pornography and child abuse reasons but detrimental to the perception of how innocent these characters are. Daenerys was thirteen when she was raped by Drogo, who was in his thirties, on their wedding night. Which makes Danny's devotion to Drogo much sadder, but in a gross, uncomfortable way. Jon and Robb were teenagers at the beginning of the books. Which makes Robb's battle successes more impressive but makes Jon' being sent to the wall more callous.

Their banter and tentative friendship was one of the small changes that was so precious to me, aside from Shae being protective of Sansa. They were two people who really needed friends in that place.

Also in the show Sansa and Margaery are still friends after Sansa's marriage with Tyrion, in the books they never talk again in Sansa's chapters. In the show Margaery encouraged Sansa to thrust Tyrion, in the books something similar happened however not so explicit with Garlan Tyrell, where he tells Sansa that his family realized that she has a crush on Loras however his now husband would be a good one for her.

At least one big thing I'm glad they changed for the show.

"And so my watch begins."
Tyrion can take any situation and either make it a joke in his favor or make himself sounds badass.

So many people forget that in westeros marital doesnt exist, and that sex between spouses is YOUR DUTY. You can't say no as a wife. Catelyn for example, was forced to marry her fiancee's brother, have strange men strip her down, comment on her body and carry her to her marriage bed to a stranger who would sleep with her and then leave. Her wants or consent didn't matter because she was raised to lay down and endure it. As all ladies in the realm have done who marry for duty, like Cersei who was raped and beaten by Robert.

So Tyrion not forcing himself on Sansa and getting insulted for it afterwards and still respecting her wishes is VERY kind considering the culture. It doesn't make him an angel all of the sudden, but it's very thoughtful considering Ned Stark didn't do that for his own wife. And the whole reason they got married was because Tywin knew Sansa was the key to the North and that other families were trying to scoop her up, so he quickly solved the issue.

That is a great example that sometimes the show can do things better than the books. The „friendship“ between Tyrion and Sansa was a nice addition to the show. The same goes for the Arya & Tywin scenes at Harrenhal. In the books Arya and Tywin never meet but they adapted it quite nicely into the show. Unfortunately after season 4 everything goes down the drain. Season 5 was the prelude to the chaos which was season 7-8.

In the book Tyrian is thinking he could never be loved no matter how kind he is. What happened with Taisha always comes back to haunt him. He isn’t forcing himself on her not because he is the kindest man in Westeros but because he is desperate to be loved. Sansa could have friend zoned him and that would make Tyrion a little more happy but she hates him like everyone else.

For people that were so obsessed with sex, heirs and periods they really didn’t know shit back in the day. Not every chick bleeds the first time she has sex. God I’m glad I was born in 1994

He wouldn't mind. I'd put it that way. I read that chapter recently and it seemed to me that Tyrion felt it was his duty to consummate the marriage. It is a Sansa chapter as I recall, because we learn she even finds Tyrion's penis ugly (not that she had a lot to compare it to). So we don't know what exactly is in Tyrion's mind, only what he said and did with Sansa.
