My Cheap Plane | Piper Cherokee Overview

This plane only cost me $35,000 and has been one of my favorite if not top purchase in my life. Most people are fascinated by how planes work, and some of us go a little further and become pilots. In this video I this my journey to become a pilot, talk about my aircraft, how much it costs, and an in-depth look at it's condition.

This is a 1963/64 piper Cherokee 235 with fixed pitch propeller. Piper is on e of the more common general aviation aircraft companies. It's a low wing plane which I prefer. So if you're interested in getting into learning how to fly a plane or shopping for a piper Cherokee this is the video for you.

Nice to see someone not operating with an unlimited budget, still getting by just fine with the old "steam" gauges I learned on in the late 60s. Kind of like riding a bike in your old cut off jeans instead of team lycra spandex at 10 or more times the price. It may not be as chic as the upper crust, but you can still do it! Thanks for the down to earth presentation!

Back in '71 I had a girlfriend that had a 235 with a Robertson STOL kit installed. Great Plane!

Could you do a video on the costs of maintaining, owning, and flying a plane? Thank you!

Karl, I just happened to be flipping through some flying vids and happened upon yours. I too, learned in a Piper Cherokee 235. The tail number was 8724W … and what a beast! I loved that plane. It has since been sold and I have moved on. Becoming a Private Pilot was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, bar none! Great vid! Thanks for sharing! 😎

As a former Naval Flight Officer (navigator/bomb dropper/mission commander) I've thought about getting into private aviation. Your intelligent and optimistic video is motivating. Very excellent explanation.

The 235 has a high useful load so it's a good, practical choice for a family guy. And it looks like you got a good deal on the price. The panel can be updated and the interior spruced up as finances permit.

I just took my first discovery flight at a local flight school. This video gave me a lot to think about in regards to renting vs purchasing a plane. Thanks for putting this video together, beautiful aircraft!

I love Cherokees - I started my flight training on these - so many years ago, fond memories. love the low wings, which look like real airplanes rather than a box with wings (you know which ones I am talking about). Unfortunately in my days we just used the 2 VORs to determine where we were in relation to the sectional, No GPS. I would have loved to have the GPS for my cross country flights. thanks for the memories!!!

Best thing I ever did was go follow my childhood dreams and get my pilot's license. I'm up in Kissimmee and bought my own plane as well (Beechcraft Sierra). Doing a career change myself. About to start commercial license now and then go after instructor sometime this Fall.

Great video! The Cherokee is a forgiving plane in the air. It's easy to service and easy to find parts. Keeps the cost down. The ADF( not AFD as it sounded like you said) is a great way to find your destination airport if there is an ADF station nearby. The arrow simply points the way to go, you can't miss it. You can even tune in an AM broadcast station. Sadly many ADF stations( proper name is NDB stations) are taken out of service nowadays.

This is the first video I’ve seen that goes in depth into all the gauges.

HI Karl, my name is John. I have been dreaming of flying since I was in high school. Well I am now 51 and just signed up with a local FBO to finally start my private pilot training. I was able to get financed so I can start right away. I came across your video and was amazed at your beautiful airplane. I am going to be training in a piper cherokee 140 and am super excited. When you explained how cheap you can get your own airplane I was overly excited. Having a pilot license has always been my dream but owning my own plane was like the pinnacle of my dream. So please help me because I would love to be able to own my own airplane, especially a Piper Cherokee like yours. I am so thankful to have come across your video and look forward to talking more with you. You are awesome!!!!
