Fort Erie continues to dig out after the storm

The town of Fort Erie was digging out today and assessing the damage from that powerful Christmas weekend blizzard. Power crews were trying to get hydro back to thousands of people.
This is being called a once-in-a-generation storm for Fort Erie, but it also helped to bring out the best side of the community.
The blizzard knocked down trees throughout Fort Erie that took power lines with them. At one point in the storm, power was out for 15,000 people. As of noon today, the town said there were still around 4,000 people without electricity.
The town has been scrambling to deal with snapped hydro poles, downed power lines, clogged roads, and vehicles stranded in the snow.
The town of Fort Erie declared a state of emergency on Friday. In 2006, when the town declared an ice storm emergency, the mayor says there was constant communication with the provincial government, which is in charge of municipalities. This time, he says there’s been nothing. No response from the province.
