Speaking as journeyman Ironworker, this video hurts me inside.

You only need to space/measure the ends for a good lay out. the field can vary by an inch without affecting the strength. A piece of plywood with a hand hold cut into it would make a good gauge to help with spacing. Use a tape measure every 10 feet or so to check for tolerance build up.

I'm just here for the comments... They are priceless.

Not sure why all the hate. I think it's a neat little innovation. Fast and precise. I would not use a tape measure for this crap and I sure as heck wouldn't eyeball it, either. Jig = win, in my book.

there is a tolerance allowed for the placing of rebar. your jig and meticulous placing is a waste of time and manpower.

I guarantee your engineer did not calculate that 13" spacing would compromise the tensile strength of your slab or 11" would compromise the compressive strength.

He charging to much if he using that jig on a jobsite. Lol

throw that in the trash and use a 6 ft wooden ruler and then paint some bars for a template and pass them out and line em up and wala done deal that's how the pros do it

I tried this, but found it uncomfortable in my pocket, so went back to old-fashioned tape measure.

not to be a wise a$$ but you said "tensile strength, which is the lateral strength of this concrete", I think you shud revisit that statement.

A bit ocd.
There’s leeway in bar. To much wasted time this way.
Reminds me of a job a did and earthquake straps engineering guy said wtf you have 2 nails that are a 32nd off. Yep 32nd off.

I would of have at least made the handle out of 2x2 or 1” dowel just to make it more comfortable and lighter to handle

so whats under that poly ? blinding concrete ?

why 12 inch, is there a relationship between rebar width and distance and please always draw it on paper to explain better thanx

its not the deep lol, especially with 10m bar lol

Your little box jig is adorable, maybe put some Barney stickers on, or maybe Captain yet, toss it in the trash, mark some bars out and learn how to tie on the mark. I've tied up bridge decks that were 1000ft long, and THAT is a waste of time my friend, works great on a shed or garage, not practical in the real world.

For all the assholes that are hating... Having means you can delete a lot of other shit out 9f the schedule for that day and you wont have to drag around a tape measure.

Anyone wearing ankle socks and casual dress like this at a job site is probably only doing so for attention. This dude is not getting his hands dirty. “The Engineer” laid out all the rebar seen in this video and told this dude not to touch a damn thing other than his unmanly “Jig.”

It’s hard to take guys like this seriously. This dude is a hazard to himself and those around him on a job site like this.
