Here we derive a necessary condition on the Green's function to satisfy the causality constraint. We put into context the problem of Causality within the scenario of material response, we write the convolution integral representation for the system response to an arbitrary excitation and we then impose Causality on the system dynamics by restricting the behavior of the Green's function in the complex plane.

In a next video we will illustrate the concept of Causality using an example: the Lorenz Oscillator.
