I'm going back playing Enlisted, asking how the game is doing in 2024 This World War 2 MMO squad based free to play shooter has gotten quite big updates recently. So let's see what that means for the game and if it's still worth getting into now in 2024, a few years after release. Checking out Enlisted, a free to play WW2 MMO squad based shooter, that was released in 2021. There's been some major updates made recently (merge update), which is called Enlisted New Era! Today I'll talk about them and also how I believe Enlisted plays in 2024 after these changes and if it's worth your time as well!

Enlisted is an MMO squad based shooter for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in World War II where you act as an infantry squad leader, tank crew or an aircraft pilot. The weaponry, soldier’s uniform, appearance and capabilities of the vehicles in the game are in line with historical facts.

Each squad consists of several soldiers who can be trained, equipped with new weapons and items and then taken into a battle. You control one soldier directly while other soldiers will be controlled by AI which obeys your orders. You can switch between soldiers and stay at the most interesting point in a battle event after part of your squad has been defeated.

Dozens of units with different specialisations participate in Enlisted battles simultaneously. This ensures maximum density and spectacularity of a battle while maintaining a high contribution with each participant for the victory of the team. Infantry, armoured vehicles and aircraft battle together and you can try several roles in just one game session.

I use to play Enlisted before all the updates stop playing for months (possibly for a year) but coming back to it now and seeing how they've improved it, I gotta say it seems to be in a better place and its easier to understand the perks system. keep it up! :)

I downloaded a whopping two days ago and I love it. It makes me nostalgic for old battlefield 4 in WWII, which I love. Every match I get at least one “Saving Private Ryan” moment, where it feels like a movie I get to control.

I was honestly befuddled when I first joined after several months but after getting adjusted I would say the changes have significantly benefited the game for the future. Before you probably had to grind campaigns for months to just unlock the Heavy MG's but I was able to get unlock them in the first week coming back. The game overall still feels slightly incomplete but is perhaps the best free to play game out there for my taste in the military genre. It is almost the perfect balance between arcade and realism and as you said extremely immersive. The main things I hope to see are updates on the bot AI, polished weapon animations, and a slight pet peave of mine which is introducing Bipod mechanics. It can really take me out of it mowing down dozens of enemies only to realize the bipod is only a weapon model and some bipods are even deployed. Just my opinion though, excellent video. Deserves much more views

To be honest back in the day Enlisted was better imo. The graphics, gameplay and new guns definitely improved the game, but at the same time they made Enlisted too-arcady for me. 2 years ago you had super dark and muddy feeling maps, fire all over the place, tanks exploding left and right and soldier dismemberment was actually more (they removed certain features like cutting off limbs from corpses, made blood less and lighter etc.) So ye its still an absolute BANGER for a free game, but i miss the griddy-ness from old Enlisted matches

Biggest problem for me is the grind, it takes so long to get something better, and with the tech tree update it definitely makes it easier to see what you are unlocking but its also horrid that I have to research and buy everything in the row before I can get the most recent or best equipment.

Long time enlisted player here. I noticed that when they rolled out the new tech tree, the exp gain has not changed and it might even take longer to research equipment.

Just wow, after coming back from closed beta and seeing these changes, they have been making the right decisions and design changes for sure. Probably cause they have been listening to their community and it shows, in fact, I would say that the community has grown to a level close to that of War thunder which is quite interesting.

I've never heard of this until I saw an article talking about a new release on Steam, although it's also on consoles where I would play. Not sure if I'd like it or not so looking up stuff, but it does look and sound interesting!

I just had a IJN game where no one had the proper AT equipment to take out a sherman. We never took a point. All 1000 spawn points reduced to zero with absolutely no hope of winning.

One of my only gripes with this game is how the AI feels like an after thought and decoration than actual threats or units.
While I understand not wanting to make them too OP, I hate that right now it feels like you got stuck with the "special" forces...

While rushing in and wiping out a squad of AI can feel very rewarding, being on the receiving end can just feel so, so cheap. So many times I will watch as all my AI get shot by a single player with a bolt action, as they all just stand there not reacting to all their comrades dieing in front of them, not even attempting to shoot in his general direction. Rarely do I ever look up at the team units listing in the top left and see any of them with kills.

Not to mention I don't think that the Medic units ever heal allies or you automatically, or I'm just unbelievably unlucky. I've gotten downed directly in front of my two medic units, as they just stand there and stare at me. MOVE! SHOOT! DO SOMETHING!

I'm still new to the game, and maybe I'm somehow missing something but man do I hope they find that sweet middle ground between "Ready-or-Not bots" and "motorized mannequins".

Enlisted has become progressively heavy and more demanding on the GPU load and VRAM. At the beginning my RX 6600 did 160 fps on High settings and now a year later it hits about 120 fps with the same settings. VRAM at the beginning used around 4.8 GB and today after the latest update on the Gaijin player it used consistently over 6 GB hitting close to 7 GB VRAM. However Enlisted can be played on ultra low with the GT 1030 and it gets around 50 fps. I hope Enlisted stays playable with low end hardware and older GPUs. Enabled the new AMD Frame Motion Generation, the RX 6600 on High settings hit 210 fps, so an 33% of improvement.
