At SMU Dr. Frank Turek was asked, “How do we account for the errors of the scribes in the New Testament since these documents were handed down from one person to the next and what if these errors are not simple and interfere with the teachings of the scriptures.

Do not let human errors lead you away from God but learn from them.

Dr Frank is amazingly well informed. He almost always refers to a source without thinking very long.

People ask the same types of questions all the time of Christians in these lectures. He’s obviously prepared for it. As are many other standard questions people have about the Bible

I'm on a truth quest, I don't care about being threatened with damnation anymore. All I care about is finding the TRUTH, not "my truth".

That's what we should all be looking for.

Most errors are through translation. If you refer to the Aramaic and Hebrew Bibles it is better explained.

2 Peter 1 : 16-18 "For it was not cleverly invented fables that we
followed when we made known to you the power and the coming of our Lord
Jesus Christ ; it was because we were made eye-witnesses of his majesty.
This happened to us on that occasion when we received honour and glory
from GOD the Father, when this voice was borne to him by the Majestic
Glory - This is my Son, the beloved, in whom I am well pleased. It was
this voice that we heard, borne from Heaven, when we were with him in
the sacred mountain.

I had many misconceptions and hearsay opinions until I actually began to read the Bible for myself and I found that I was miserably ashamed of my arrogance and biases, God forgive us all, since not one is good not one but his son, praise God.

And yes he will forgive you he loves you more than we could understand.

I see from comments some attempts to prove this wrong. Instead they are mere examples as proof. Here's the post:
Actually this is all covered when Jesus said: Seek and ye shall find. If you seek lies with your mind, heart and soul... You will find lies. If you seek no God with your mind, heart and soul you will find no God. If you seek God with your mind, heart and soul you will find God. This protects the integrity of free will. Yes, it is actually up to YOU.

There are people who doomed themselves by adding to and taking from The Holy Bible

"Turek you Heretic, why'd you do that?"

The last point he made was very important. Papyrus in the 1st century was extremely expensive. People taught one another orally. They had fantastic memories because, as Frank said, they didn't have cell phones, computers or even paper to write down everything. So when someone important (Jesus) said something to them, they memorized it and could recall it later with great accuracy.

Great questions! I think Frank responded to Grace's underlying concern, but a more direct answer to her first question is that scribal errors can be accounted for in a variety of ways. Some changes were accidental (copying a word twice, omitting a word, skipping a line, misspelling, etc...) but some changes were intentional (conflating readings, clarifying speakers, etc...). Frank is right that we know where these variants are. In response to her 2nd question, I would add that we don't have to blindly follow the majority text. It's not the number of manuscripts that determine the original. Often, it's the shorter and harder reading that most likely gave rise to the later readings in the majority text. Variants in the New Testament don't have to shake our faith.
