Selling - it doesn't really matter whether it is in a job, private life or while running a business - every time someone wants to do something with another person it needs a bit of selling.

But what is the right approach? Here is Jordan Belfort's opinion on who to sell well.

Jordan Ross Belfort is an American author, motivational speaker, and former stockbroker. In 1999, he pleaded guilty to fraud and related crimes in connection with stock-market manipulation and running a boiler room as part of a penny-stock scam. Belfort spent 22 months in prison as part of an agreement under which he gave testimony against numerous partners and subordinates in his fraud scheme. He published the memoir The Wolf of Wall Street, which was adapted into a film and released in 2013.

When he says he “weeds out those that aren’t interested in his product” and focuses on those that are interested in what he’s selling is just cherry-picking. Basically burning through sales leads to find the lay-down sale

Insightful. Attune vs. Impose. Question 1 is identify who is even a customer. Thanks Mr. Wolf!

I use this tactic when communications and IT equipment and service, YES it does work.
The key is to ask questions.

Merchants back in Ancient times were often very rich. Especially if you sold luxury goods. Most of those merchants started selling small local goods such as fruits and vegetables then moved on to selling wares. Most merchants are good at talking and negotiating with different types of folks from all over the land (and other cultures). At some point they moved up to selling luxury and exotic goods and they are richer than most nobles they have sold stuff to. You see, the art of selling has always been the same even today. Selling is all about psychology and verbal "warfare". Your objective is to sell and make money. Nothing more. Sales people dont give a crap about you. They care about your business and money. Nothing more. There are two types of sales people: 1) buying and selling for profit 2) a talker. The talker is the one who gets the most money. Its all about human behaviour. If you randomly go to walmart just to buy toothpaste and soap but ended up going back home with toothpaste and soap AND a laptop when you did not even plan on buying one but you were sold with the idea of getting one thinking you may or may not need it. Well, its most certainly that a salesman can sell you anything. Be smart about your money folks. Buy if you actually depend on it and need it.

He's shing brass here (and calling it gold). Yes, the idea is to find out what the target needs and then hit that, because that's the best way to manipulate someone into doing what you want him to do. Sure, there is truth, find out how a real transaction requires, which is two parties each of whom want the same thing -- A has X, B has Y. They trade X for Y, and both are happy. That's capitalism basic. What Belfort has a reputation of doing, and apparently did, is to shade the truth, substantially, to persuade B that X was exactly what he needed when he didn't. That's abusing the transaction, and is not the way business is properly done. He sort of reminds me of Trump, in a way, as a salesman who wouldn't lie, but might claim that a windy day is a tornado, exaggerating for effect, a salesman at heart.

That’s why I could never sell kurbeys because no one needs a 2, 000 dollar vacuum. That and you have to knock on their door it’s not like they came to me

he didn't actually sell that pen, just threw around a bunch of basic advice, i think he was caught off guard and dodged the question.
