Is it just a fad or the new normal for businesses? Hundreds of thousands of employees took their work online during the pandemic. Four years later, many employers are pushing to bring workers back into the office. This week on What’s America Thinking, host Julia Manchester explores the latest studies on remote work with Jessica Kriegel, chief scientist of workplace culture at Culture Partners.

What’s America Thinking? is a lively, informative show that leans into why Americans are so fed up with the government and its inability to make their lives better. We’ll focus on the people behind the polls, pocketbook issues, the disconnect between Washington and Main Street - what Americans are REALLY thinking!

Make sure to subscribe and join Julia every week as she discusses hot-button issues and hears what America is thinking.

I used to work for a corporation for almost 10 years and the amount of time wasted being in the office, commuting and dealing with coworkers that you didn't want ro talk to, was soul destroying.

Remote work for many people is just better in every way and you don't even have to come into the office to collaborate anymore.

The government is freaked out by the prospects of a commercial trash estate crash due to all of the unused commercial real estate.

Whats the point of going back into the office if the majority of work can be done at home?.

I have been remote for 4 years. I have been more productive while taking care of my 3 kids. When I worked in office my boss would call us into her office and gossip for hours and talk about her life problems. She was a micro manager and would get mad at us for not hitting our goals but the reason why we didn’t was because she loved to talk! It’s been nice being able to focus on my work. I get all my work done before the end of day and I truly love the work life balance I have.

I work 3 days remotely 2 days in office. I can say that working remotely has given me and my company massive benefits such as:
- Saving money from commuting.
- Working hours flexibility.
- General employee happiness.
- Less lateness to meetings and work shifts.
- Better productivity (Due to less interruptions from colleagues and distractions)

That is just to name a few. At the end of the day if somebody is lazy and not doing their work, you will know by the deadline.

How much is commercial real estate paying to keep producing these videos?

My company works in the AI software space and employs over 1, 000 professionals around the world. We went remote during covid and have since given up our office space entirely and gone fully decentralized. These are all six- figure plus roles that are fully remote and will never go back to a mandatory office. This is the future.

I can say from my personal experience (I work for state government), I would turn down a promotion to remain working at home full-time. I'm hybrid right now.

If you want people back at the office, extend what you consider their workday from the moment they leave the house until the moment they pull back into the driveway… You will see you’ll end up with a lot of people for about five hours a day if you want to 40 hour week.

At least in manufacturing, production space makes money. Office space costs money. Companies that can minimize the number of cardboard cubes they have taking up space in their building can dedicate more of that space to actually produce products people want to buy.

3:47 HAHA how much are they paying her to say this? It’s great on her mental health to be in an office? What?

it's all about real estate values. If work from home becomes the rule, no one wants to buy your property. Huge portfolios take a hit.

I work in software and could do much of my job fully remote. But meetings in person add something, when you have to whiteboard a system design, and even just knowing when to talk. But I also like getting code running during all hands meetings. Teams/Slack kind of ruins focus work at your desk no matter where you are, luckily I discovered how to mute multi person channels so I don't have that bell ringing every time someone chats to someone else. So hybrid for me I guess. My office commute is 15 minutes, I'd be a lot more anti office if it were an hour or more.

I work in the USA for a French-based company. The world (Europe, Asia, etc.) has gone back to the office except for the USA.

I know several of the workers at home. They say the money spent on clothing and essential can be use in other places like, swimming lessons, music lessons, the sports our children play, school, college, just general raising….❤. This makes sense to me !!!😊

Embrace the change !! I can't work for lame out dated management that can't adapt to change. I own my own business now and work from home. I'm much happier. My productivity is mine to enjoy now.
