I very much respect this perspective but would like to make the note that most people who are on carnivore aren’t doing it because they already feel good. Many of them first tried a plant based diet and that didn’t work or made things worse. They are suffering and desperate to try anything, even the likes of something as extreme as an all meat diet. A great majority of people aren’t thinking about how to make it to their 100th birthday, they’re thinking about how do I wake up tomorrow and feel good enough to work, good enough to take care of my family, good enough to want to keep living. As the diet wars continue may we all keep compassion for the great struggle we are all enduring everyday we wake up and realize most people are doing their best to figure this out.

I've been on a 15 year journey to heal my IBS. I was raised organic vegetarian for the first 30 years of my life. I tried being vegan and gluten free for 2 years to heal my IBS, but the diarrhea never stopped. I was doing celery juice, fruit smoothies, large salads with no dressing, sweet potato, rice, about 20 supplements, etc. I finally tried carnivore 3 months ago. It's a miracle diet for me. My body is really loving it - I didn't realize how nutritionally deficient my body was. My teeth are no longer sensitive -they're actually getting whiter!! Energy is returning, I don't feel cold as often, I have 1-2 bowel movements a day instead of 4-5, lost all my excess weight, I don't wake up with a chronic sore throat anymore, etc.

I don't think any proof was provided for the assumption that a long term carnivore diet would result in negative outcomes with regard to dementia, cardio vascular disease, etc.
I tend to also like the hypothesis that a damaged or very limited, low diversity gut microbiome may be the reason people do so well on carnivore. However, it seems that some people are actually thriving on carnovire and have excellent markers of health in the areas you mentioned would suffer. If we could route just a small percentage of the trillions of dollars that flows into patent medicine research, and use it instead to study human nutrition, we would be far advanced in our understanding in as little as 10 years in my opinion.

My understanding of this is "Use carnivore diet to reset your gut, make your tight junctions sealed and then replenish good bacteria"

Mikhaila Peterson has been carnivore for years and eliminated all her inflammation issues? Surely if it was that unhealthy she would still be experiencing joint and arthritis problems?

Why not have a debate with someone like Anthony chaffee ? Too many videos of folks who agree with each other these days, where is the challenge that is needed for growth in that?

To many miss the boat on natures cycles. No grocery. No refrigerators. It only makes sense that our biome will cycle.
The problem with studies is the need to find single point results. Failing to take into account seasonal effects and the flushing of things like oxalate or going thru lean meat season.
IMO our guts aren’t meant to be static but cyclical

I don't think the data supports that conclusion. People aren't just healing autoimmune diseases on carnivore, which could indeed be primarily due to eliminating certain problematic foods from their diets. But carnivores generally have greatly improved markers of inflammation even years into the diet as well, and it's chronic inflammation that leads to many of the diseases we're being overrun by.

I agree on most of your points except for the importance of fiber. Fiber has no impact on cancer of any kind. Fiber isn't necessary for proper bowel movements. Cancer of the colon is due to the cancer virus infecting damaged colon cells. Oxidative damage from processed foods, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, anything that's not bioavailable will damage cells. Fiber can actually cause constipation instead of what conventional Medicine claims. Whereas consuming adequate amounts of animal fat will keep the colon/intestines healthy and "lubed up". Too much fat will cause diarrhea. Insufficient fat can lead to constipation. Fiber is supposed to be digested in the appendix but, the appendix is a vestigial organ.

Plant base diets are failing now because the soil microbiomes have degraded to such a degree that the plants we were able to eat for good nutrition don’t exist anymore.

Eating too many carbs may defeat the purpose. It's not 'fruit' like before it was selectively bastardised. Rotate predominately carnivore diet and careful ketosis with small and sporadic challenges to insulin. Slow and low with soluble non-oxalate fibre.

I think it’s a bit difficult say long term outcomes of carnivore diet are going to be unfavorable when so many people get incredible short term benefits. We’re not talking about a drug here if the food you’re eating is benefitting you in short term you will benefit long term as well. Your body sends signals on how you should eat and to ignore that bc someone interprets these imperfect studies that vegetarians have better long term outcomes is ignorant.

My favourite podcast that I recommend to all my friends. Simon delivers science in an easy to understand way and helps you cut through all the science noise out there to deliver the facts. Love your work Simon. Thank you for everything you do!

I have come to the realization that everybody is different. 😂 All these diets, charts, life expectancy, all of this is non-sense. I know men who used tobacco for 90 years and ate smoked meats most of their lives and hit 90. Then I know people who exercised and lived pretty balanced diets and ended up dying younger. I honestly think each body has its own needs and wants. We have too much today and that’s part of the problem. Some people eat veggies and get messed up while others can eat those same veggies and feel great. I personally will eat a portion of broccoli and proceed to drink up the whole room with my farts and my stomach kills me while others are like “ew gross man, wtf did you eat” and I respond “same thing as you”. Find what’s good for YOU.

Really curious about this and glad to hear it talked about, I've been unable to come off a carnivore diet without my skin going crazy ... trying probiotics now.

This sort of reminds me of educators saying “we know that school attendance is linked to school success, ” and if you point out that you have been absolutely killing it in school despite lower attendance rates than people doing far worse… they just say “oh you might not have fallen behind yet— but you will!” (Cuz the “data” shows it.”)

I guess maybe we’ll worry about that when it happens… cuz maybe the data is flawed… certain data comes about than then it’s a matter of shoe-hormone everyone’s outcomes to fit the “data” rather than being willing to adjust the data… or maybe study why certain exceptions apply.

But what do I know anyway. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Antibiotics in our food may be one of many contributors to gut biome dysbiosis. Has there been a study of red meat consumption with and without anyibiotics effects on the gut biome? Thanks for all your hard, deliberate efforts on our behalf.

Bacteria can also eat amino acids. Many animals are carnivores, and their bacteria are fine.
