Adventures With Purpose Solves 30-Year-Old Cold Case from 1994 During Search for Another Missing Person from 2018.

The search took place outside of Elk Grove, CA - April 13, 2024, when Adventures With Purpose (AWP), the renowned volunteer dive team known for solving cold cases, successfully recovered the vehicle and remains of Arnell Narvaiz, a man missing since July 1, 1994. The discovery occurred during a search operation for another missing person, Duke Haringer, near the Delta Island Ranch in Sacramento County.

Arnell Narvaiz, who vanished while driving his beige 1988 Toyota to his workplace at a Delta Island Ranch, had been missing for nearly three decades. His vehicle was located submerged 30 feet deep in the Delta, buried up to the windows in silt. The AWP team, using advanced sonar technology, identified and verified the vehicle by retrieving its license plate.

Discovery and Recovery

The AWP team, led by diver and sonar expert, Jared Leisek, initially identified the submerged vehicle. After confirming the vehicle's identity, they coordinated with local authorities, including the Stockton Police Department and the coroner's office, to plan the extraction.

The vehicle's recovery required careful handling due to its depth and position. A rotator truck equipped with a crane was brought in to assist with the extraction. The team meticulously pulled the vehicle out to avoid losing any evidence or remains. During this process, they discovered human remains, later confirmed to be those of Arnell Narvaiz.

Coordination and Execution

Adventures With Purpose: Led the discovery and initial recovery operations, using their expertise in sonar technology and diving.

Local Authorities: The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's office took over the official investigation once the vehicle was identified and brought out of the river.

Impact on the Family

Chanel, Arnell Narvaiz's daughter, expressed mixed emotions upon receiving the news. Born in 1992, she had no memory of her father, who disappeared when she was just 2 years old.

The family, initially resigned to never knowing Arnell's fate, now faces renewed grief but also a sense of closure.

Statement from Adventures With Purpose

"We are deeply honored to have been able to provide the answers and closure for the Narvaiz family after all these years," said Jared Leisek, founder of Adventures With Purpose. "While our primary mission was to locate Duke Heringer who's been missing since 2018, the discovery of Arnel Narvaiz's vehicle underscores the importance and impact of our work. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Narvaiz family during this difficult time."

If Arnel's daughter ever reads the comments, I hope she realizes she was not abandoned by her dad. He died in an accident. I hope she knows the he was on his way to work. He was obviously a responsible parent trying to provide for his family. Condolences to the family.❤

For a family to think he just ran off and left them, only to find he died in an accident. It has to twist your heart. He wanted to be home, he couldn't.

He wasn’t the person you were looking for but he was the person you needed to find that day! 30yrs and they finally have closure and can grieve and hold a funeral!

What struck me as the saddest thing about this video was the sight of Jared walking down the bank with that plastic bag, picking up bones from the water because that coroner couldn't be bothered to get her shoes dirty and do her job properly. Not the first time I'm seeing on this channel how carelessly some law enforcement agencies approach the handling of remains and of vehicles that contain them.

I would be devistated to know my family thought I abandoned them. I'm glad his family got the truth, and that his honor as a husband and father are restored. Good work guys.

I’m so thankful you were the one who found this man. You even went back for remains left behind along the steep bank that clearly didn’t matter as much to anyone else. We appreciate you!

1994 is the year I was born. It is hard to believe this poor man has been at the bottom of that lake all of this time. Love to his family.

I think the coroner should have removed Arnal from the car as soon as it emerged from the water. instead of his remains being damaged and scatered on the rocks. RIP Arnel

Jared, you started out as an environmental cleanup group. But this service came about as an opportunity to help people fill in all the unanswered questions. The idea snowballed and other divers have joined your mission. Thank you for what you have done for those families. As for that coroner - you KNEW you were coming to the riverbank. You should have worn your waders and rubber gloves today. Take pride in your job and you won't get angry comments from the public !!

That's gotta be a shock to the system. Wife assumed he left the family because he was potentially being unfaithful all these years, only to find out he had an accident on his way to work to provide for his family. All those years of anger and sadness at feeling abandoned, now can be resolved as sadness knowing he was just trying to provide for his family.

Been watching AWP since way back when Jared was pulling trash out of waterways, then merged into the recovery of missing people. Jared has perfected how to search and recover the lost and has proven to be the most respectful of the remains and the loved ones, dedicated and persistent. Watching him focus in the sonar screens and interpret what is underwater is amazing. Keep it up Jared, you are an amazing human being.

One thing even more disturbing than the insane amount of vehicles sitting at the bottoms of lakes, rivers, and so forth, is that some of those vehicles have people inside of them -- and you have no way of knowing there's anything down there, let alone a car with a presumably missing person in it. I don't go swimming, fishing or boating anymore without that thought crossing my mind at least once.

Regardless, I'm glad these guys are making a huge difference in everything that they do.

I gasped and started crying when his remains came out of the car. This is what Jared tried to avoid! 😢😢😢 I really hope that M.E. is fired! Unbelievable.

Wth? "Jared is taking pictures for the coroner"?! Some police don't want any help at all, but this "can you take some pics of the corpse so I don't have to go down there? Thanks." is truly bizarre.
Great work as always though! Keep it up!

I cannot imagine the things Jared has seen over the years. I’m grateful he’s managed to keep going— he’s given a lot of people closure.
