It's not just about sound. It's about holding a setup, staying in tune, fret life, bridgge quality, reliability, finish and feel. A good player can make almost any guitar sound good. But a well-built guitar delivers more reliably and consistently over time and inspires the player. The manufacturer is saving money somewhere. You probably will not recognize where the corners are cut after one playing in the guitar shop.

A lot of times we don’t realize we play the more expensive guitars differently because a lot of times they feel better, and our expectations are higher. It’s easier to play with feeling on a really nice guitar than a cheap one for some reason, a big part of it is mental. But objectively there’s more and fuller bottom end in the custom shop.

Sound is a personal preference so you can never truly put an expensive guitar up against a cheaper one especially electric guitars. The difference in quality impacts playability, longevity, maintaining tuning and also future value. In the hands of a professional any guitar will sound good but a better guitar inspires and makes you play more.

Yes, there is a difference, but a cheap guitar through a high quality amp will always sound better than an expensive guitar through a cruddy amp. Ultimately, it's about playability vs affordability.
