she was approximately 3 months pregnant when he was captured, as a mare's pregnancy lasts an average of 11 months.
So, he probably already knew she was pregnant, and that explains why he went straight to her belly.
So he wasn't just separated from his partner, he was separated from his pregnant partner, not knowing if he would ever see his beloved again or meet his baby, and that's really sad.
I'm glad they saved him, and that he can now live with his family, as he should have always been able to.
