Swans - Weakling

Hello, thank you for listening to our music. I hope it gives you some joy and pleasure.

I am pleased that you have discovered our music through this medium. I view this experience as the equivalent of previewing a record in a record store in days of old. However, if you wish to experience the music in its' fullest form, I would strongly encourage you to acquire it in a physical format you can bring into your home. Not only will you then be able to experience the richest version of the music sonically, but you will also be afforded the opportunity to enjoy the tangible artwork, which was conceived in tandem with the music, and serves as a further portal to experiencing the total conceptual and spiritual and emotional content of the work we have labored, lovingly, to bring to you.

I love you,

- Michael Gira / Swans / Young God Records

Whenever I have really bad anxiety I find myself saying 'this isn't real' in my head. Then i start to hear it in Michael Gira's voice, and then the anxiety gets worse, and then I laugh, and then the anxiety is gone. I am too young to have experienced this album live (probably my favourite Swans album) but that doesn't mean my life is not influenced and moved by it. This kind of abrasive music helps me align myself with the world. Long live SWANS.

That fucking bass is monstrous! I can see where bands like Godflesh and Helmet got their influence from.

This album is one of the most artful configurations of brutal noise I’ve ever heard

I first discovered this album about 1986ish... I was immediately hooked on the beauty and brutality of every song... I listened to it constantly... Wore out three cassettes.... I listened to it in just about every state of mind depending what I was getting high with... I particularly loved walking late at night through the scrap yards listening to this song over and over... I eventually was able to acquire several SWANS CDs when they were re released... I've had the incredible pleasure of seeing SWANS play twice in my town and have befriended the biggest SWANS fan alive... Joey Pan! I am a fan for life!!

As a metalhead whose always questioned “what is the heaviest song ever made for its time”. I know this isn’t metal, but I think this right here is the answer.

Maybe discovering and blasting this every day as a young teen is the reason I'm still depressed.

This shit absolutely had to inspire bands like Meshuggah.

There's no need to hope; I do find pleasure in your works, Mr. Gira. Thank you for existing.

Very few no wave songs swing this hard. I always love hellish sounding music that you can also dance to

From what I've researched, Norman's tone comes from: a single bridge Humbucker on a telecaster, some distortion pedal (probably a ds-1), Marshall stack (Cranked JCM 800 into some Marshall 4x12s), and upstrokes.

The percussion on this whole album is just devastating. Its time for this early stuff to be re-issued in a cool box of CDs.
