Chiang Rai’s Sun Kong Noi street is a low key best place for Songkran. Safer, friendlier, more water and cheap.

My first ever trip in 2007 I'd done no research and was in Samui for Songkran. Hadn't a clue what was going on, had to ask the hotel staff as being from the UK if someone squirts water on you it gets very nasty in under 30 seconds. Avoided it ever since.

During the Songkran Festival 2023 at Khao San Road I saw six foreigners wearing military uniforms as part of a group of adventurers. They look very cool and fierce. But in the end he was defeated by the Thai people. Because it is the hallmark of being easily hunted. And they seem to really enjoy being hunted.🤣🤣
