I don't usually like these kinds of videos, but this one is right on. Our GSD fits all these patterns. He's an AMAZING creature, but very sensitive. Loyal, intelligent, loving beyond belief. They are the very best of breeds.

I am a retired k9 police officer who recently lost his partner of 8 years.
He was 10 years old when I had to have him put down for intestinal cancer. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss him! Only thing I can say for what he hated, was after I had retired and had to leave for work every morning I could see in his eyes the confusion as to why he wasn't getting in the car with me. I don't think I will ever get over losing him.

My GSD (Rocky) is huge, 115 lbs we were told he was too fat by a trainer however the Vet said he was fine. One day last year my Neighbors dogs took off while we were talking, Rocky tried to take off and I let him go. He chased and caught the dog picked him up by the collar and brought him home. He let go at my Neighbors feet I never taught him that. It just came natural plus the strength to carry another dog for two blocks. they are strong.

OK so here’s my GSD story for whatever it’s worth. This is all before my memory but it goes like this… 100 acre farm in Handcock County WV. I was around 2 maybe 3 years old. The dog was given to us by a relative who didn’t have the space to keep him. To my knowledge it was not trained though had a wonderful disposition and very well behaved. That dog allegedly followed me everywhere and never left my side. One day my mom plopped me on the kitchen porch where I would play so she could glance out the door window to keep an eye on me. I guess this day she didn’t do all that well (I have a wonderful living mom!) because she looked out and I was gone. She began circling the house looking for me and at one point saw I was back on the porch again. Soaking wet with mud and pond slime. Fred (our shepherd) was soaked about halfway down. It was dry that day and the only muddy water was the farm pond. As impossible as it would seem I must have wondered down at that age and fell in. It was a nasty snake infested pond. There was also bite marks on the back of the shorts (underwear) I was wearing. Dog must have yanked me out and heeded me back home.

I have no way of knowing how true this is but a dog name Fred saved my life! If nothing else it makes a good story.

I had a 13 YO female I just recently had to put down for a cardiac tumor. I really miss her, she didn’t like it at all when I left to go racing. She always seemed to know when I would get down my gear bag, and then just stop and look at me so sad like “dad please don’t go”. I would always try to be real quiet but she always seemed to know and would come find me

my girl hates when I stop throwing the ball or being ignored by friends/family when they visit. Must play, must be adored. I've had 2 female GSD, both intensely smart, loyal and protective at the right times and as soon as they know you are a friend( human or canine) they include you as one of their own. Put the effort in from the moment you get one, training, socialization, good nutrition and exercise you will have the best dog.

We have a white swiss shepherd (pretty much a gsd) and he loves being close to us and cuddling. We weren't expecting it (we were told to expect him to be a bit detached) but he's really affectionate, it's awesome.

I recently adopted a 3 year old German Shephard named Duke. In the week and a half we have had him he has destroyed 2 different crates ( the third crate is an Impact crate which Dog-Dini has not broken yet). He hates other dogs and will throw himself against the plate glass window to get to them. We have interviewed several dog trainers and picked the trainer that the local police department recommended, and hopefully will start training shortly. This is my second German Shephard, our first one lived to the ripe old age of 14.

I just brought home my pup and his dad, being the only dog for 3 years is a little jealous when it comes to attention but this is still within a week and I can see improvement already. Very smart dogs.

I have two GSDs, one 7 yrs and one 3 yrs old. They both cannot stand being left alone when my wife or I have to leave the house. All GSDs I've ever been in contact with have separation anxiety to some degree. They get better as they age, but early on they can be very destructive. With my youngest, if I leave him for more than about 2-3 hrs, I'll have a pile of something chewed into tiny bits and left PRECISELY in a pile in the middle of the kitchen floor to let me know how he feels about the situation. And no dog can give you a reproachful look like a Shepherd.

My brother & sister in law owned 1 GSD and 2 GSD mixes, all 3 were great dogs, protective of their family members, loved to be out and about with family members, these dogs could walk all day if need be. I miss all of them, they were never any trouble because they were all trained at a young age.

My big boy is a mix of GSD and Malamute. A 130 lbs of intelligence and he’s not overweight. I feature him sometimes on my channel. He loves herding turkeys, but not as keen on the chickens. He loves playing scent games. Absolutely must walk with me every day down our street to get the mail. He has a canvas tote that I put light weight items in and he insists on carrying it home. When we go in the car he always brings in the end of his leash. If that’s not available, he’ll carry in an umbrella, my wallet, a roll of paper towels, a bag. I carry a light weight purse so if he wants to carry it he can. Around town he gets lots of pets and admirers.

They are family. Anyone who truly loves their pets will miss them when they die. Pets are friends, companions, and a comfort to their owners. All the time spent together is treasured. The memories will be there, the love will never be gone.

I have a German Shepard/Akita and she’s just the most intelligent, loyal, intelligent, protective girl! She was just sick with a stomach virus and had me and my fiancé worried sick! She’s better now but We’ve been SUPER spoiling her ever since although she’s had a change in her diet to keep her healthy as possible!

We never take a long vacation when we have my gsd. Except with him travel locally. He really behaves very well. We don't want to put him on boarding care either. It is because we had a very bad experience with the other breed before. So, no matter where we go, he is the #1 to be with us. Spoiled him, definitely yes. Just love to see his excitement while he puts his nose up in the air when traveling with him. It is just so happy with him.
