This is all about what suits HIM, HIS BUSINESS interests and HIS FAMILY. Best to have the summer to turn the page and re-deploy to the US for the next chapter of his 'fortunes'. It is also a choice that can allow HIM a measure of British personal and political retribution while greeting Americans on Independence Day!

I tell you why now. Because this is the only July 4th before the latest possible election date, and Sunak wants to show how much he loves America and how much UK is indebted to America that he just needs to have the biggest day of his life set to this big day in America. He probably doesn’t care how the history of the day is so much linked to the British history.

He's been offered a nice little job.

Why now? Probably signed a major deal with a US bank and can palm off the migrant issue to another party. It is called "abandoning ship"

Channel 4 News strongly urge their viewers to Vote Labour. Very wise.

The PM should have the power to decide. We're a monarchy, thank God, not some tacky european republic.

One rather interesting but very bizarre speculation I have heard about why the election is called so early is: Sunak wants to give King Charles III at least one chance to appoint a prime minister before his illness overwhelms him. But this just puts Sunak way too kind than he can possibly be.

He's a millionaire with 700 million and since he was unelected Prime Minister he made another 120 million so his net worth is 820 million, yes inflation has come down and everything else has gone up, council tax, food and petrol prices and gas and electric, yes inflation has come down and tax cuts.

Just a comment. If the Tory’s are good at organising and building the economy, why could they not have organised a pergola to stand under? One reason maybe the funds would not stretch to the cost of a pergola or even to the hiring one. Not a good start to a political campaign. Maybe the prim minister did not want to ware that old Ganex overcoat that was hanging in the entrance hall or maybe he can’t afford a Ganex.
