For those in colder climes a snap-on black plastic cover for the unit would cut down a great deal
on the amount of current required to keep the dish free of snow and ice. If you watch a black car
and a white car after a snowfall the black car melts off its snow cover MUCH faster than the white car when sunlight hits it. Sometimes a really simple and cheap design choice can save a lot of energy.

Ever since the first round Dishy came out, and I saw some intrepid adventurers pack the dish, router, battery and inverter back up into some remote mountain location.. and then do a live stream video.. I've thought about this. Now, a little over three years since the very first beta customers went live, we're now seeing the next iteration of this. Just fantastic.

We have no idea how much this will change our lives, there are so many applications that we can't even figure.

I’m not very techy but it helps me to listen to you to keep relevant. Keep, doing what you do. Thanks.

I am a current user and just received the offer to purchase the mini. They want $599 for the Mini hardware and charge an extra $30 per month for usage in addition to the $120 that I now am charged. Also, only usable in the United States. That is a game stopper for me since I do travel a bit and this would be ideal for that.

Hay J, I'm a Land Surveyor and I do a lot of work at remote sites. We surveyors have used Cell networks to connect our field work to the office in real time. There are many cases where we work with no Cell service. This looks like just the ticket to fill that gap or supersede the cell network all together. You mentioned emergency services, but I think there might be even more opportunities in the private sector.

You’re right Joe, this is a huge game changer. Our radio club is doing Field Day this weekend at a public setting.
Now that this capability is a reality, I expect people to ask me why they should bother to get their amateur radio license when this powerful portable technology is now available. TBH, I’m starting to wonder that myself. Everything I can do in an emergency with my portable 20M radio and an end-fed antenna can now be accomplished with this unit..and more.
That’s crazy

This is the perfect product for our RV and I wish it would come out in time for July when our vacation starts. I don’t need maximum speed and size and integrated router are paramount and USB PD is huge.

if the ethernet connection supported power over ethernet as an option i would buy this. running two cables to a roof instead of two when wanting a non backpack setup.

Awesome overview. I am waiting for the mini for use in my Class B van. I work travel, a lot. The DC cable (USB PD powered) is a really cool change.

I'm curious why they didn't choose to add a PoE option in addition to the power brick option. Since its portable, having less cables would be useful. Connecting a power brick to a device that must stay outside in the weather doesn't make a lot of sense unless you have perfect weather. That's why the existing units use the starlink cable between the dish and router in the existing models.

So RVers will now have to feed two cables to the inside of the car instead of one. DC is one cable, and (because Wifi will not be sufficient through the roof, especially if the RV is built of metal) you will need a router or access point connected via ethernet inside of the RV. I would prefer a seperate 12-volt-router with built-in POE so one flat cable to the roof would be sufficient. That´s the way I use my dishy v2 right now - powered by 12V via step up POE and a router powered by USB.
The solution now published is perfect certainly for e.g. people with a shed, that is powered by solar via a Jackery. Backpackers will have limited online time due to energy restrictions anyway (100Wh power bank gives you maybe 3 hrs.) And RVers will have to live with two cables.
🖖travel long and prosper🖖

WIFI 5 - Is very compatible with all but the newest equipment, so for the "Model One Mini" I'm sure it will be fine.
Don't forget that we'll probably see a "Model Two Mini" in less than a year Joe. - lol
I thought I read that the DC voltage can vary anywhere between 12v and 48v - that will make it universally adaptable to almost any DC source around today (even solar panels!).

Just imagine you, the mini, a 100w solar panel, and your cell phone - you could be anywhere off grid.
