Learn How to Describe Your Childhood in English!

If you are learning English it is always a good idea to learn how to talk about your childhood. Maybe you want to be able to talk about your childhood in a casual English conversation, or maybe you know it will be part of an upcoming English test like the IELTS or TOEFL.

Either way, being able to talk about your past as an English learner is a great skill. In this English lesson I'll go over some really common phrases that we use to talk about our time as children. You'll learn English phrases like, "I was born and raised...", "As I child I was always..." and many more.

Along the way I'll try to keep the lesson interesting by showing you pictures of myself as a child! I had a great childhood growing up on the farm where I still live. In these photos you'll see me as a kid in my natural habitat! I was born and raised on a farm!

Hi Bob, I was born and raised in The Netherlands, As a kid, I was always outside. I spent my childhood in my grandparents' garden which was full of great happiness. I used to call my friends to play together in that garden. We would be overjoyed on those days. I used to dream of being an English teacher:) I was taught to respect the elder people, be tactful, and not to tell a lie. My grandmother was like our babysitter. She always looked after my siblings and me. she tried to do her best. I should thank her for her considerable efforts. There was a close and strong bond between my grandma and me. Therefore, I used to want to stay in my grandma's house but my father didn't use to allow me to stay there. He made me stay in our own house. In addditıon to this, I would be a real animal lover:) I used to adopt street animals consistently. because of this, I used to argue with my family members. As I remember, the best things of my childhood were my grandmother, mother, my cats, my friends and the games which we used to play with my friends:)

Hello Bob, I was born and raised in Hung Yen city, Vietnam. As a kid, I was always outside. I spent my childhood in my uncle's garden which was full of great happiness. I used to call my friends to play dolls in my bedroom. When I was a kid, I dreamt of being an English teacher. There was a strong bond between me and my sister, who first taught me all about English. In addition, I would be an animal lover. I used to have a beautiful golden dog but he passed away long time ago because of disease. As I remember, the best things of my childhood were my parents, my friends, my sister, my doll and my dog.

I really appreciated your shots as a child. My parents brought me up with the same values.
I used to wear hand-me-down clothes but I never lacked affection and missed any chance. Old time parents, they grew up during world war two and lived the reconstruction decade when they married. They had to pull up their sleeves and we were taught to do the same.
