I was misdiagnosed for years as having bipolar disorder (possibly) when I had 17 nodes on my gland. After years of taking mental medication it turned into cancer (thankfully). I was so abused by the medical profession I am still traumatized.

Don't ignore that bump in the thyroid area. My 41-year-old wife had a lump in her neck which she attributed to a virus, or constantly being run down. Six months later she finally went to a doctor to get checked out. Fine needle biopsy revealed papillary thyroid cancer. For some reason the surgeon thought it best to remove only half the thyroid, despite the tumor measuring over two cm. Upon follow up appointments, the cancer was found to have spread to surrounding lymph nodes. Exactly one year after the initial surgery, she was back in the hospital having the rest of the thyroid removed, along with 38 lymph nodes. Three months later, the next stage of treatment was a difficult iodine free diet and swallowing a large radioactive iodine pill which was supposed to kill any remaining thyroid cells in her body. Five years later, current status is four enlarged lymph nodes that may be cancerous, but have not changed size in a few years, managed with the prescribed dose of synthroid. I suppose the cancer may have been inevitable, but ignoring the lump for that long was a big mistake.

Dr Hansen you really gave me anxiety with your past cancer videos! 😃 Because many of the symptoms can be different things too. Long COVID can cause most things described too

What are the diagnostic procedures carried out when thyroid problems are suspected? Pretty please.

Hashimto's is my current diagnosis. However, now I have a nodule at 1.5cm and my PCP wants a biopsy with a general surgeon...uhhhh... I'll be checking in with my endocrinologist...this run around between doctors is thanks to the USA's very broken and expensive health "insurance" structure (PCP in-network, random surgeon in-network, endocrinologist doesn't accept my current insurance... But accepted my old one)...ugh

I noted an asymmetry in my wife's neck (at age 27). She went to her doctor, who referred her to a specialist. She was found to have something referred to as cold nodule in her thyroid. She had her thyroid surgically removed. She now depends upon synthroid to live (age 61).

I too was misdiagnosed. Now this was in 1980. 5 different doctors, never took a blood test. They had all sorts of excuses. After some time. A diet doctor took the blood test & realized how sick I was. I had Graves disease. It was Dr. Singer, who at Good Samaritan hospital, in Los Angeles saved my life.
That is why I tell everyone to ask for blood test, especially after having a baby. Like me, my thyroid went out of control & had my pcp asked for blood test for thyroid it would of been discovered alot sooner. I now keep track on my thyroid. I have it all under control, & it had gone back to normal.😊

I had my entire thyroid removed (so much more peace of mind than removing only half) due to a malignant node 18 months ago. I had no symptoms whatsoever and had been monitoring it for five years. Once it reached 1cm, I had a fine needle aspiration, which confirmed the malignancy, and that was all I needed to have surgery (keep in mind I was monitored by a Head & Neck surgeon those five years). Here in Brazil it’s absolutely normal to go the the OBGYN once a year and for her to ask you scans from your head to your toes. This might come as a shock to some, but we have an excellent medicine, including the public health system (viva o SUS), and we work a lot based on prevention (ergo the total thyroidectomy and not the partial). Now it’s HRT for the rest of my life…

I've had thyroid back in my young days back in 2008 and after having my son back in 2016 I was told I had no more thyroid bc being pregnant regulated my hormones but now I was told my thyroid is low and it all started with not being able to take a deep breath and fast palpitations. It's just so much different than before

So, is this the 5th video in a row now talking about Ozempic? It feels like more and more, that you are sponsored/employed by the makers of these drugs.

Ive got 4 nodules in my thyroid right now, with ZERO of these symptoms. I went in for a CT on my neck and back and it was an incidental finding. 2 are .5cm, one is 1.5cm and the other .9cm. My GP said if he had to be concerned with any of them it would be the .9, So I am scheduled for a biopsy.

I knew I had something going on and my primary said I doubt it. I eventually forced her to put in the sonogram bc I had all these symptoms. And bam thyroid cancer

I recently found out that my family and I grew up on illegal water so now my previous concern of fluoride build up in our bones has been exacerbated by the news. Mum still refuses to get a water filter. I'm worried the water hurt her mental health and all our health. Incidentally I have autoimmune dysfunction and just found out my prolactin levels are very high. I've started taking a certain few natural supplements again - coenzyme q10, selenium and magnesium - in an effort to repair thyroid damage. I need to buy a new reverse osmosis filter cartridge too, but that should be possible soon.
