This is the greatest video ever made. Words can’t describe how wonderful this Canadian man has done to articulate the deep history of Sri Lanka. I’m tamil and Sinhalese and I will donate for my people - we are United together

This is way better than 11 years of history education in Sri Lankan schools. Lol.

As a Sri Lankan it shames me to watch that last part of the video. We the privileged in Sri Lanka has turned a blind eye on these hard working people, who incidentally help to source the dollars we use to order the most mundanely unnecessary things on eBay. Happy to donate to this cause.

And I think the school is doing absolutely the correct thing by teaching the youth English/IT. English became a status symbol in the country due to the long British colonial rule, so while some would call it neo-colonization you can't really ignore the ground reality. These youth are getting the best package that can change their lives and their standing in their communities in the shortest possible time. Well played.

Wow, you've lived through some of the darkest moments of our island's history. I too grew up in the early 2000s. On behalf of all Sri Lankans, our eternal gratitude to you Matt! Hopefully, one day you'll return to see the warm smiles of students whose life you helped change.

(I've followed your channel since the 50K sub days and saw you mentioned sri lanka in another video but didn't know you lived here that long :) )

This was wonderful. I am happy to have donated. I’m a history buff, and my roots are in India and Pakistan. I’ve learned so much about Indian history, but knew very little of the history of Sri Lanka. I know more now. And that makes me very happy. Thank you for this video.

I am a Sri Lankan Tamil born in the UK half way through the Civil war so I didn't really understand what was going on and was often only told one side of the story. It was really interesting hearing the events from a purely historical and non biased standpoint.

So nice and surprised to see someone outside Sri Lanka doing such a great detail study and analysis of Sri Lankan history and culture. It also helps us to see how others see us with an unbiased eye. Thank you very much!

Even though I'm a Sindhi, I believe the story of the entire subcontinent is part of an essential heritage we should all know about. I'm often saddened that we don't discuss southern and northeastern histories enough. While North India is certainly important, these "frontier" regions are often filled with interesting stories that steered the fate of the entire subcontinent.
